I have just had one of those bizarre Twilight Zone moments in life.

Back in September I went up to Twickenham for some egg-chasing double header thing (got the tickets free & you can drink alcohol in your seat, what's not to like?). Before the game I was mucking around with the giant rugby players statue outside the front of the stadium, and a few photos were taken by one of the guys I went up with.

I'm staying up in Oxfordshire this week for work, and found myself roped into a pub quiz...well it passes the time doesn't it? A question popped up about a famous quote & someone said it was written on the statue at Twickenham, at which point I remembered I still had the photo on my phone. So I show it to the guy sat next to me on the 10 man quiz team, who lives & works 150 miles away from me, and who I met just two days ago....and he stares at the picture for a second before pointing out that he's standing right behind me in the photo.

At risk of sounding like HB&B, I just wanted to share that moment of random life- trivia with you all :p Seriously, how WEIRD is that? What are the odds?

Way out west
That is bizarre.

How about this one. Last year I spent a month travelling around South America and, due to the earthquake in Chile, found myself kicking my heels in a small town in the lake district until the group I was supposed to join in Santiago reached there. I managed to secure a bed in a really nice hostel overlooking a lake and spent most of my time learning Spanish in a language school and chilling. During the time I spent there I met people from all over the World, which just added to the experience, including the occasional Brit.

I know it sounds like a bit of a cliche, but on meeting a Brit you usually go through the routine of where you come from, where you have been on your travels, where is good to visit and finally when you get bored it usually ends up with what team do you follow. One night I got chatting with a bloke, told him that I lived in Gloucester, turned out that his mum lived in a village near Stroud. Asked him which one and he said Nailsworth, how odd I said, I go and watch Forest Green play quite often. Asked him which team he followed, expecting someone from the Premiership, but it turned out that he was a Wimbledon fan and had also been at the game when the two clubs played earlier in the season. So, out of just a couple of thousand people who watched a non-league game in England, two of us just happened to be staying in a hostel in a remote part of Argentina at the same time.

Well that's what makes it even more unlikely.

It's the only rugby game I've ever been to in my life. I only got the photo out because another team mate just happened to think the quote in question (where would you most commonly find the inscription "Standing on the shoulders of giants"?) was written on this statue, and he just happened to be the person sitting next to me -out of ten others- when I was looking at it. And actually paid attention long enough to notice himself in it.

Was so surreal we barely noticed we'd got the wrong answer in the quiz :lolol:

(the answer is "on a £2 coin").

It's not that strange if you consider he has been following you for months. Look at other photos - he's in them all!

Actually that's more creepy than funny....

Very good, but how much more bizarre would life be without such coincidences. I mean, the oddds of these things happenig are pretty low, but they do happen - I guess that's why we notice and remember them. At least you didn't claim it was done by proclamation from a "higher" source.

Backpacking many years ago two friends and I were on 'The Mall' in Washington DC wandering around the monuments. Two days later we were sitting in a diner in New York and a couple came over to us and asked us if we'd been in Washington two days earlier because they'd seen us on The Mall!

Oh I don't consider it the work of a higher power, I like to think if there are such things, they'd have better stuff to do than that, but it was just quite a spooky moment.

Then again given all the millions of people we encounter daily, statistically we must come across some of them again, it's just we never find out about either encounter in the same way that I just did.

I work at Gatwick and whilst waiting for the last passengers to board I starting talking to an old lady who needed help with her bags.
She told me she lives in the U.S but used to live with her husband in Beverley, Yorkshire. I told her this is where I was born. She then says she moved to Hull with him, I tell her this is where I lived for 10 years.
She then tells me she has been staying with friends in Shoreham (Buci Crescent).. I tell her this is very strange as my house is next to Buci Crescent near the Royal George pub.... "Oh, I was in there last night" she says...
Guess where I had a few beers that night?

I think I have a good one.
Many moons ago I went to Oz with a mate. I managed to get a job quite quickly and my mate went to the beach with my CV to try and get ideas on how to rework his. The CV got blown away by a gust of wind and my mate thought nothing of it.
Two days later I got a phonecall from an old university buddy who was also working his way around australia and had just happened to have picked up my cv miles away from that beach and recognised my name.

Not as good as the others but...When i was on Holiday in Florida we decided to drive down to Tampa to go to Busch Gardens. Whilst there i literary bumped into a friend from college who, a few days previously when i told them that i was going to Florida said that she would love to go there but was going to Greece instead, but her parents had actually booked to go to Florida as a surprise. And they also decided on that day that they would go to Tampa for the day.

The reason i feel the others are soooo much better is that Florida is a popular holiday destination and i'm guessing a few people have bumped into people they know whereas Edna's is just astonishing, unless, as someone has suggested, he is stalking you!
