Formation.

With the imminent return of Jim McNulty and a decent shift from Elliot Bennett at right back today, would the match against Orient be a good time to explore the possibility of a change of formation to 5-3-2. Our three centre backs are sound and could cover across, leaving McNulty and Bennett to get forward which they are both really good at doing. Look at this formation and tell me I'm wrong:

Kuipers (gk)

Bennett (rwb)
Tunnicliffe (cb)
Virgo (cb)
Elphick (cb)
McNulty (lwb)

Crofts (cm)
Dicker (cm)
Davies (cm)

Forster (f)
Murray (f)

It could be a disaster, but equally it could make our season.

I didn't go today, did Thornhill play well when he came on?

never had a chance to really make an impact especially when we wre playing hoof ball for much of the time, but he is apparently a creative, attacking midfielder (but then again so is navarro) and this team is absolutely begging for one of those

Dicker (cm)

I like it. No harm in trying

No he was a disaster and must be better than he has shown, for RS to chase after signing him

Basically me thoughts, he hasn't played well thus far, but he is apparently a very good player, i think he needs more of a chance to prove himself i.e. a start, if it doesnt work out then bin him craig davies style but at least give him that chance

I have been really disappointed with Thornhill. Heard good things from Forest fans when he came down. I'm not exagerating when i say he gave the ball away pretty much every time he got it today.

If it wasn't working, Virgo/Tunnicliffe could go across to right back (which in the absence of Whing will be the preferred option anyway) and we could easily revert to the good old 4-4-2.

The main gist of the thing is 4-4-2 hasn't produced the results as yet, we could tweak the formation to 5-3-2 against Orient and see how it went. Bennett is basically a winger, but he did alright today by all accounts at right back, and it seems that fullbacks don't need to be able to defend all that well anymore anyway, with Ashley Cole and Glen Johnson being the current England 'fullbacks'.

Do it Slade:thumbsup: nothing to lose (except a JPT game!)

Not a bad idea. It would make it easier to shift to the inevitable 4-3-2 formation half way through the first half......................
