Agree on the probabilities of your first sentence here. But your second sentence doesn’t follow at all. Say we don’t win another match this season, which is possible as we play just one team below us in the table and it’s away. I think then it becomes a much finer call.

I think like all of us, I don’t have a 100% convincing explanation why the two halves of the season have been so different. Dan Burn who didn’t start in one of our wins until December 26th doesn’t seem to me a convincing explanation. But in the similar lopsided Hughton second PL season, most settled on the explanation that his methods had been worked out by other teams

I do think we’ll stay up. Only if we went down would Potter’s job potentially be up for debate is how I think Tony would see things. If we stay up by the a fine margin, I’m sure Potter would get another stab at things next season. Say he has a half decent start he’ll still be here. And if things implode again and yet we stay up by another I’m fine margin I can’t see TB sacking him even then. And so the cycle may continue. What I can see is hundreds of fans dying from the sheer boredom of hanging on each season without having any goals or wins for long periods.

TB has been able to sell White and Burn without bringing replacements in or an expensive striker alternative. If I was in his shoes I’d be absolutely delighted that my team has stayed 10+pts about the relegation spots and 13th or above all season. Huge success in that regard as this is the first season he could genuinely put his feet up and be thinking about the summer knowing we’d be a PL team 22/23.

That same owner was not that patient with CH. Did the owner change or did the style of the manager change or the quality of "CERTAIN" players?

Loved Chris. Love Potter a lot less. Can understand why Tony got rid of Chris though. And why he’ll stick with Potter because of the brand even if results are practically the same.

Which is a poor explanation. Everyone has known for 10 years how Burnley play football and it doesnt prevent them from meeting or exceeding expectations every season.

There is a fair chance GP gets sacked (or walks as there's easily a world where you can get burned out from managing this rollercoaster of a team) at the end of the season but I think his chances of keeping the job is better than it was for CH, for a variety of reasons, the main one being that Covid seriously ****ed up the squad building. When on average clubs have a transfer deficit of around £50m per year (in the last two seasons) while Brighton over the last two years is very close to £0, just staying up is a pretty decent achievement. This can be compared with the -£120m in CHs two seasons and the -£53m in GPs first season.

Going close to £0 in transfer deficit over two seasons without losing ground in the PL is remarkable and I think TB is well aware.

P7 W0 D1 L6, 1 point from 21, goals scored 1 conceded 13 - that form often gets a manager the sack. I'm not saying it should but GP is a lucky guy.

Is it possible BHA won't score again at home this season?
Is it possible BHA won't win again at home this season?

You want the worst, start a thread and moan about charging for season ticket card and this thread.

Why not **** off as you are clearly not a BHAFC fan.

did you miss the bit about not saying GP should go or was that convienient for your irrational behaviour outburst?

Of course we’re going to stay up, the bottom 3/4 look genuinely shot, but Bloom has already demonstrated that’s not a sufficient criteria on its own. All moot of course if we pick up a couple of wins but if we really come up empty the rest of the season, stranger things etc

No but you have an anti-agenda against the club, pick another one and **** off

Reaching for the Covid excuse is a real stretch. Hardly localised to Brighton. The Ben White windfall, while a more tangible thing, I’m not convinced will be determining either. But Potter has 8 games left to show he can demonstrate some form of resilience and bouncebackability, that’ll be a better way for him to start next season here rather than with a string of apologia

Transfer balance in the Covid era (according to Transfermarkt):

Arsenal €-202m
Chelsea €-185m

Leeds €-166m
Tottenham €-159m
Manchester City €-135m
Liverpool €-123m
Aston Villa €-101m
Crystal Palace €-88m
West Ham €-80m
Leicester €-67m
Everton €-62m
Wolverhampton €-15m
Burnley €-4m
Brighton €-3m
Southampton €+6m

Yeh I thought I covered that with my point about the Ben White windfall, credit for which goes round the club and not just Potter. But this is not an unusual pattern with Bloom and his managers, many have often initially received a more generous player budget than their predecessor, happened with Poyet and then with Hughton and then Potter. They are then expected to work with those new players and it doesn’t tend to go well for those managers who can’t demonstrate real progress with them but just need ever more budget and players. So don’t assume the correlation with Covid equates to causality, a judgement was made that Potter had his appropriate budget to work with, whether you or I thought it should be bigger isn’t really relevant

It’s the sheer boredom right now. I know GP has to trot out the same boring interview for the media each time, but he needs to understand he is also talking to fans who haven’t seen a goal at the Amex since 18 January.

Anyone who missed the Brentford Boxing Day game has not seen a home victory since 19 Sept. It is just woeful, and the prettendance figures are now laughable. This game ‘sold out’ but there were gaps all over the stadium. People have better things to do than watch this fare. And that could be what stirs Tony into action.

Paul Barber is not bothered if die hard fans choose to go and see Lewes, Worthing or Littlehampton, as he can always fill seats with lovely families on their ‘day out’, but when even they stop coming because it’s dull, then there’s a risk to long term revenue.

And it is dull at the moment. The atmosphere is dying on its arse. People are being marshaled into this story that it’s great football and we just need to wait for things to change. The spirit and self-expression in the stands that once rose up to save this club has been nullified and is a distant memory. Potter is just the personification, in interviews at least, of the mind numbing corporate face of the Albion.

If you take away the first five games of the season we would have 24 points from 34 games , that is relegation form , only 2 home wins since September, it is just not very good and very worrying

How you work that out? We have played 30, so gives 25 games.

It sold out and many of the ticket exchange tickets sold out.

Southampton is close to selling out and the ticket exchange will likely open again.

There’s always been gaps when ST holders can’t make it. These gaps were often filled by ST holders handing their cards to friends & family - that’s more difficult now.

So not sure this whole fans being turned away is a false narrative. ST retentions in a cost of living crisis, pandemic, still above 90%. I don’t see how you can back your narrative up?

results & overall output - I agree to an extent. But the football itself has been fine.

I think it’s been fine in spells, and has had moments where it’s been fantastic, but these last couple of months have been nothing short of diabolical. Having said that, I guess it’s subjective, if you enjoy super slow football, with relentless repetitive patterns which are easy to defend, insistence on possession and generally mind numbing football that goes nowhere then you’ll probably have enjoyed the last few months. From my point of view it’s been horrific.
This is based on the last 2/3 months, not the whole body of work.

Given the circumstances I thought the crowd got behind the team. It wasn’t raucous, but it wasn’t a poor atmosphere either. Maupay got an ovation, very little booing at the end (I didn’t hear any but have been told there was some). It is far from toxic. Seemed to me that the majority could see the effort but frustrated and disappointed with the outcome. Many many grounds Maupay would have been boo’d and the team boo’d at the end. That didn’t happen.

I think he is fireproof from the sack. That extended contract he signed will be incredibly expensive to rip up. I do think though that if another club were to express an interest in taking him I would not be surprised if TB came to a kind of mutually beneficial deal...

expect to hear " Graham Potter is an exciting young manager and he's turned our club around but now ( fill in as appropriate ) have made an offer for him it would be unfair to deny him the chance to go there as the next step in his career.. " etc etc.
