What with all the nostalgia threads today, a name popped into my head, of an Albion centre forward, who I used to quite rate.

It occured to me that in all the past threads 'best player', 'favourite player', 'worst player', 'best haircut', etc, etc, I have NEVER once seen his name mentioned.

He was a regular first teamer too, not a reserve who played two or three games.

He played in the 80's. Can YOU guess who he is.

He is NOT included, for some reason on this fairly exhaustive wiki listing;

Ray Clarke, if it was he I agree, a much underrated forward who did it in the top division for us.

Nope, none of the above.

Terry Connor regularly gets mentioned anyway. So does Ferguson, on the 'worst ever' threads!

This guy NEVER gets mentioned

Alan Young?

Was in that famous team of three Youngs..Alan, Eric and Willie. I remember the Argus ran a poll to have the team run out to the 'Young Ones' just for that game.

He also got sent off whilst playing against us twice, once for Leicester and thenm for Oldham.

Terry Connor was name checked in the 'best goal' thread, earlier today.

His flicked near post header after we'd soaked up approximately 327 corners in the 2nd half, in the FA cup @ Hull, was the stuff of legends.

The 'Young' side played at Pompey, I believe when we got thrashed 5-1.

Alan Young was a Scot and a 'robust' forward, the type you love in your team, the type who mixes it. Like a Alex dawson or a Ritchie Barker.

Sadly, that type of forward takes a battering over the years and we never saw the best of Alan as he was often injured.

Yes - didn't they lock us in and play the radio commentary of the goals to us as we waited ?

They sure did, and it was raining. There were no Pompey fans left so it was just done to annoy us. Didn't Mark Hately score 3 or 4?
