Fans snap up Forest tickets
By Brian Owen

Albion's clash with Nottingham Forest is likely to be the first Withdean sell-out of the season.

Fans are also snapping up tickets for Tuesday's trip to Gillingham in the wake of this week's impressive 4-1 win at Leyton Orient.

There were about 600 tickets left, all for the uncovered South Stand, for the Forest match after several hours of brisk business yesterday.

They remain on sale today with the last few expected to go on the day of the match.

Forest's allocation of 874 was quickly sold out.

Withdean's capacity is now 8,850 which means Albion have a great chance of attracting their biggest home crowd since they left the Goldstone almost ten years ago.

The Withdean record stands at 7,999 for the defeat to Southampton towards the end of last season.

Whether Albion beat that figure could hinge on how many of their 4,000 season ticket holders are unable to attend.

There are usually some no-shows for various reasons and Albion do not count those in the attendance figure, even though the seats have been paid for.

Sally Townsend, who has overall responsibility for ticket sales, said: "We are always busy but it was nice to see the customers so happy after the win at Orient.

"I think we will still have the last few Forest tickets available on the internet on Friday night or Saturday morning, which is when some people see what the weather is like before making a decision."

Alexis Bertin, one of the stars of the win at the Matchroom Stadium, reckons the Forest game is one to savour.

The recent French signing admits he had never heard of Brentford or Leyton Orient until a week ago.

But he said: "I know Forest, it's a great club. I'm happy to be playing against them and we'll give the maximum to try and beat them."

About half Albion's allocation of 1,000 tickets for the trip to Gillingham had been sold last night.

Then back down to 5,500 for the following home game. Only because we're playing the best side in the divison.

You don't know that.

It's not unheard of for a morale boosting win to give us a good run of results. 4 points from the next 2 games could well see us getting 6-7000???

(I'm not expecting that to happen, as i doubt other teams will be as bad as Orient:lolol: )

It won't be near 8,850 though, 600 still to sell and a number of STH's can't make it due to half term commitments etc. I will go for 8,287

The last few times I've been, I've just walked in and not had the stub collected, so I wouldn't be counted as attending. I wonder how many other STHs have had the same experience.

I think that's because you were carrying a severed head in your rucsack though MAX, and they were too scared to collect your stub.

Nice to see that Sally Townsend now understands the concept that fans are customers !

Club is slowly moving in the right direction on the commercial side.

They don't count the stubs, there's mechanisms in the turnstiles, I think.
Like one rotation = 1 person.

What about really fat people like adrie that have to go through special gates, how are they counted?

Very interesting, and pleasing to see more ticket sales. Undoubtedly, the main reason is that it is a "big club" we are playing, but could some of the increase in interest be generated by the fact that we had a winning team on Tuesday with a coupleof new players...?
Now...if that is the case.....would this mean that investment in the team and better results mean more interest and therefore more income for the Albion...? Unthinkable I know.....but it might be something for the board to consider...??

Could we realistically expect one away win and a couple of new players to simply send Withdean to capacity for the rest of the season?? Not a chance - of course the crowds change according to the perceived status of our opposition, but if the crowds are even bolstered by 10% every game here-after, because of improved form, that can mean around an extra £100,000 by the end of the season, an improvement in season-ticket sales, a buzz for the club around town and beyond - and another solid statement that this club is an integral part of the Brighton and Hove life - and ever more deserving of a permanent place to play.

The fact that our City's football club hasn't got a proper ground - sticks out like a sore thumb! :nono:  :nono:
