The first friendly at Withdean was against Nottingham Forest in July 1999, I think.

I'm sure David Platt scored, as did OGH.

Was it 2-2?

Yes, and Ricardo Scimeca also scored for them, although strangely I cannot remember who scored for us (did Freeman get one?). Interesting fact of the day is that I sat opposite Norman Baker (not long elected MP in the great scheme of things) on the train there, who was in hospitality on a freebie from the clib!

It was a 2-2 draw with Gary hart scoring the first goal at withdean. Forest I think went two one up with scimeca who was their big new signing scoring. Freeman got the equalizer. Platt was their manager and Steve tomlin who was local, ref'd the game. He also was on the committee who gave the safety agreement to play in his capacity as local senior fire officer.

Stunning atmosphere for a friendly, although the event was totally overshadowed by the 6 nil win a week later in the first league game
