Just got a kindle for Christmas and I need ideas as to what book(s) I should buy. I'm not a massive reader but have a big interest into the lives of footballers.

Any recommendations as to what autobiographies i should buy? The more controversial the better!

Big thanks!

Not an autobiography as such, but David Peace' fictional account of Brian Clough's 44 day reign at Leeds United is as dark and engrossing a football book as you'll ever read. IMHO, like.

Not an autobiography but "Barca: The Making Of The Greatest Team In The World" by Graham Hunter is well worth a read.

Its a really interesting look behind the scenes at Barca during the Guardiola years.

Definately Garry Nelson's books, and not just for the Albion stuff.

Despite his colourful life(style), don't be tempted to get Stan Collymore's book......I thought it was rubbish. Equally dull was Geoff Hurst's effort.

Garry Nelson's books are very good, and would be first and second on my reading list.

Willie Irvine's autobiography is good although I've only read the Albion bits!

You dragged that one out, Beachy.

It's about time chl4 showed the dramatisation, again.

Tony Cascarinos is a good read[/QUOTE
I have read a fair few and most are quite crap, this is interesting and thought provoking and a cut above the average. As mentioned, The Damned United is fictional but very entertaining but one book above all stood out for its mix of pathos, humour and honesty

Provided You Don't Kiss Me: 20 Years with Brian Clough by Duncan Hamilton.

Buy this book and you will see why Brian Clough was such an enigma. At times, I had tears in my eyes, absolutely brilliant.

I read Collymore's, but as nothing really has stayed with me, I can hardly recommend it.
Gladys Protheroe...Football Genius, is funny but might be a bit dated now.

As you're 'not a massive reader':-

Other sport
Michael Hutchinson - The Hour, is a great book even for non cyclists.

Other
Tony Hawkes' (not the skateboarder) books are a great easy going read.
Peter James' stuff is all set in and around Brighton.

I was very good.
Unsurprisingly, with that cast and the material they had to work with.
