There were 3 or 4 Special trains to Newcastle. I wasn't going but my mum (bless her) went and got me 3 tickets on the 'extra' train they only put on a few days beforehand, for me and my mates as a 16th birthday present. My birthday was the day of the game, spent virtually the whole day on the train as we missed the start due to late running. Worth every second though!

Also went to Orient, Luton, Bristol City by Special. Had to pull the blinds coming back from Luton as notorious for bricks being chucked through windows.

PG
breezed through on normal BR serivice , ONLY PROBLEM WAS THE TRANSPORT OB TELLING US THERE WAS A GOOD CHANCE OF US GETTING A KICKING WHEN WE GOT THERE :(

Was anyone on the Special coming back from Wolves, it had come to a halt (signal I guess) when one carraige had a window was sucked out by a passing train.
came back from Wrexham via Wolves when they were playing at home, remember the train just sitting there outside the station and this massive wolves mob appeared down on the embankment on this waste land , could see the windows going in at any time ,train pulled off though.......... LUCKY !!

Used to go on the seagull specials regularly. First one I remember was to Sunderland in 78 when we won 2-0 and went top of the table only to lose to Charlton 4-3 on the following Tuesday. Went to Newcastle for the famous game and plenty of others. Also was stuck on one when we played Forest in the league cup.

I was on the Sunderland train, got off at Seaburn not Sunderland, all for a fiver!

Seem to remember a special train being out on to get us back from Southampton, when we were in league one, a couple of seasons back? Forget what day it was, but it was an evening game....

Went on many Seagull Specials in the seasons 1978/79 to 1982/3..... but as I got a bit older ( 20 in 1982)..... they became less cool to travel on, no booze allowed etc. We had started by then travelling independently on the trains ( they were still cheap then),... and provided more flexibility when it came to football 'debates' with our fellow footy travellers from other teams across the land.

They finished in 1979/80 season so don't know how you went on them after that, only one ran was to Anfield for the FA Cup in 1983. From 80/81 season the club did a block booking on normal inter city trains

Went on the Special to Peterborough for the snowy FA cup match, had to sit in the guards van coming back as no other seats free, no heating so froze half to death.

they ran the odd ones to fa cup game and the liverpool league cup game in 1985 but the seagull special finished in the 79/80 and didn't do every game then. I remember demand dying off and the club just doing block bookings on normal inter city trains instead

you were bound to meet a firm anywhere going around BR stations especially London in those days, remember meeting Westham at Euston when we had both come back from Manchester one year. met some Palace at Birmingham new street on their way back from Wolves a couple of years back............. bless their little cotton socks!

I must have been on that bus with you. The driver stopped to kick the Everton off and they chucked bricks at the bus. I got a letter from BTP after that game for trespassing on the track. to right I ran away, we was just a tad outnumbered!
