The other day I brought FM09 off ebay for a couple of quid, my first one!

I decided to be Crawley for some reason and every game in the pre season I lost. And I was up against teams in the Ryman leagues... and losing like 4-1

I remember my brother telling me he won the Belgium league once and was undefeated all season then left his club to win the world cup with Belgium, undefeated.

Just don't understand how you can be GOOD at this game???

on a pig farm
take control of the team you are playing, then put their top striker in goal.

simples

Buy good players - easy

Easy in principle, I tried to play as Brighton not long after the game first started (when we were in reality stuck in Division 2)...I couldn't get anyone to sign for me, not even from clubs several divisions below, plus I didn't have any money.

In the end I gave up and played as Hearts, had a really good first season finishing as runner-up in the league, then all my best players left for Celtic and Rangers...took a two week holiday and returned to find that the board had sold my best goalie...it is a frustrating game at times with a degree of reality written in by the programmers.

Don't joke Dave, I have seen that done in reality...in a game featuring Torquay, their keeper went off after about 10 minutes through injury, they didn't have one on the bench so the manager put Tim Sills in goal...at the time he was probably their key asset and one of the best players I have seen play outside the football league.

-sort out the team tactics, don't do anything too extreme
-get your set piece takers sorted
-sort out individual tactics
-get good coaches and scouts
-sign transfer listed players as they're always cheaper

i always play in one of two ways

either:

4 defenders (both full backs playing quite defensively)
1 defensive midfielder (i always make this my first signing as it's my most important position, this player is usually my captain)
2 central midfielders (both have to be hard working as they have to do quite a lot of covering)
2 wingers
1 target man

with the players getting it wide as soon as possible, and getting crosses into the front man, and counter attacking

or

the same as above apart from the front 3 are in the formation of an attacking midfielder (playmaker) and a front 2......i usually use this when i'm managing a better team as it allows for a free flowing passing game

I don't think I've ever struggled with Brighton. It usually takes an absolute maxiumum of 3 seasons to get promotion from each league.

Turienzo's tips are worth noting and have a read of the old FM thread where JDenton (I think that's his name) shows in great detail how he achieves great success.

getting a good assistant is a decent tip aswell, as they'll help out if you are stuck on deciding on a line up, give you feedback etc.

oh, and if you're a lower league side then a parent club is a must

Got myself into the Premier League in two seasons on FM10, can't be that hard :lolol:

Also look into the free transfer market, theres quite a lot of good talent in there at the start. Another good thing to do is when it comes to the last few months of the seaosn look at players with expiring contracts as you can usually get some great players on free's with not much fuss.

For some reason, playing 3 out and out strikers seems to kill it on this game. I play fast, direct, fluid, counter attacking football with a defensive backline and hard working midfield trio. Seems to work every time at all levels

4-1-3-2

Play a quick passing game. 3 midfeilders running forward, also have the wingback running forward.

I am 7th in the prem. I still have Tunnycliff as my number one centerback. He has got better as I ask for training investment every year. He's not the best defender in the league but is good enough for a top championship team. The tactics work.

good tip for corners...

have 2 near post flick
2 stand on far
2 challenge keeper
and 2 lurk outside area.

you MUST have the 2 that lurk as your corner takers.
pick your 2 with best 1st touch and long range shooting.

you WILL score a lot of goals from corners with this tactic

Ah the CHEAT tactic I love this tactic. It does get boring very quickly though. Torres scored 75 goals for me in one season using this.

Does that work on FM10 as well, or do you have a similar tip?
