I actually know one of the directors of FGR, I'll see if I can some insight as to how this bloke works. It certainly sounds a bit extreme (and I've been a veggie for more than 30 years)

Our electricity comes from Ecotricity, good company with solid green credentials that your EDFs and Scottish Powers are trying and failing to mimic with small token gestures. More power to the bloke and less hoof and eye pies/burgers at football can only be a good thing.

I agree with the sentiment about having locally sourced produce and meat/fish products that have been ethically raised but surely the issue goes a little deeper here. The club have decided not to feed the players red meat, which is fine if they want to encourage a healthier diet around the club, but it is another thing to force this choice on the supporters as well. Late last year there was a player at the club who had a well publicised problem with alcohol, I didn't hear calls for the club to stop selling alcohol, lest temptation be put in his way.

There is no doubt that Mr Vince has brought a great deal of experience at running a business to Forest Green, which given the experience at the club and a brush with administration last season, has to be a good thing. However, forcing your own beliefs on the paying spectator is a dangerous move, how would the supporters of clubs with devoutly religious owners react if they were told that prayers would take place before every home game.

I think Mr Vince has a plan to raise the profile of the club locally, in this case he may just have gone global!

Edit: Rovers fans aren't too happy about this either:

Dale Vince - Public enemy number ONE

http://uk.eurosport.yahoo.com/blogs/world-of-sport/article/31926/

Article regarding Dale Vince, Forest Green's chairman banning burgers at games.

While that in itself is slightly amusing, PLEASE read some of the comments below the article, they're utterly hilarious.

I bet when Dale signed off this decision at the club he didn't expect the following;

what a self centred ignorant man..if a gay man owned the club would that mean supporters wives would be banned and you could only go with a male friend ????

What the man who banned the meat is missing, is a good beefsteak and a sexy girly to prepare it; maybe then he becomes normal again.

Who the f@*k does this guy thinks he is? F@*king Vegans and veggies dictating to everyone yet again. If I want to eat meat I will eat meat and no tree hugging hippy will tell me otherwise.

he is a blinkered dictator!

what a muG not only has he made his club look like a bunch of fairys but hes also took some ones job some one relied on selling them burgers to make a living and that fggot has taken their job because of his gay vegeterain BULL@#$%

Nazi tossers

I thought it was only in the old USSR that control of others happened!!!!

For every person that tells me that they are a vegan, it doesnt make me want to eat less meat, i actually go out of my way to eat more meat.

Even here they are trying it. F@*k off veggies.

For every animal you don't eat - I am going to eat three!
How's your eco conscience now!!

What a complete pr!ck what ever happened to live and let live?!, pastey looking tree hugger!!

1. He's not public enemy number one, that would be David Bowie during his Thin White Duke phrase for crimes against music.
2. Fixtures.

:)

Will the smell of burgers no longer waft over football grounds? What about the human rights of fans to clog their arteries? Does Magna Carta mean nothing - did she die in vain?

Well played sir, you had the subs desk in stitches, particularly your last line.

Chops...I am sorry to inform you that due to your username you will not be welcome at The New Lawn...unless you go undercover, a pastry crust might just suffice!

It does make me laugh a bit, as red meat contains zinc, iron, protein & B vitamins. The major risks if you eat TOO much are bowl cancer, alzheimers, osteoporosis & other bone conditions, arthritis, high cholesterol &, for women, higher risk of breast cancer.
