Fish and chips with curry sauce?

I love friday fish and chips (and a can if dandelion and burdock)... My Gf thinks I'm weird because I smother it in chippy curry sauce, whilst she only has salt and vinegar and a tiny splodge of tomato sauce. She also insists on lager shandy as her accompanying drink of choice...

So, who's right and who's wrong!

your missus is right. obviously she should be having a full fat lager, but one can make the accomodation for a girl.

simple rules: fish&chips = salt and vinegar, indian = curry sauce, chinese = sweat&sour, kebab = chilli sauce. chips on their own may be dressed with mayo, gravy for northerners. this has all been covered before.

on a related note, does anyone have pickled eggs/onions anymore? used to have them as a child and see them at the chippy but i never see anyone ordering them anymore.

our fish and chips might be shit compared to the rest of the UK taste wise with their lard and all that but never f***ing admit it.

as brightonions we need no lessons in fish and chips from anyone. its our dish. looking forward to the captains table saltdean tomorrow for my tea probably the best chip shop in the south of england. never be ashamed of whats served up in brighton we knock spots off everywhere else.

Simply salt & vinegar on chip-shop chips, not the microwave or oven kind which are horrid.

Only have curry sauce with sausage and chips or pie and chips as I think the curry sauce is too strong and takes away the taste of the fish. Perhaps that's the idea in some chippies.

Just had a nice piece of Haddock, chips with salt and vinegar, mushy peas and curry sauce. Washed down with and ice cold Pepsi. Delicious.

With fish it's only s+v........ just chips or chips n a battered jumbo it's curry sauce all the way

As for drink, shandy is a poor choice. D+B is OK but a proper pint of haveys is the way to go
