Films - Best of British

[CHAPPERS]

Watching The Italian Job last night with a few mates we got to talking about British films and which is the best. We concluded that in fact the The Italian Job was top of the pile. The chase at the end with the Minis is marvellous and with quotes such as

'Right, away you go. Oh, and one more thing, just remember this. In this country they drive on the wrong side of the road... '

and of course,

'You're only supposed to blow the bloody doors off!!

the film is a piece of cinematic genius.

I saw the new Italian job the other night. Very average.

Best British film must be Monty Python's Life of Brian. Closely followed by Get Carter

Although I've never seen 'The Italian Job' I can safely say, without fear of contradiction, that it's a pile of shite.

You obviously haven't taken enough drugs in your time. I agree with you about 'Shallow Grave' though, and 'Brassed Off' from Mr Popkins above, Ewan Mcgregor theme there I think.

I have no doubt in my mind that the greatest British film ever made is Shadowlands, directed by Sir Dicky Attenborough, staring Anthony Hopkins and Debra Winger. Superbly directed and acted with tour de force career best performances by Winger and in particular Hopkins, far superior to Gandhi. Gandhi was good but overrated , did not deserve the 8 oscars it got. It won because of political correctness as it was felt they could not give the oscar to the far superior ET, that year as Gandhi missing out to a wrinkly Alien would have been un pc.

Of its genre - Dog Soldiers - a British film is very good indeed. It rocks.
