20 clubs go into the Blue League each year.

I'm not entirely clear what other games teams in the gold, star, and blue leagues are playing each year. Are they in the FA Cup and League Cups? Are they still in a domestic league> I assume no to the latter as they can't compete in the same league as a team that's trying to get into the Blue League.

So, this - unlike the previous proposal - is an entire breakaway from the existing domestic league. They are effectively telling UEFA that their role has been reduced to administrators, just as the Premier League did the same to the FA.

The men's competition would be split into three tiers - the Star (top tier of 16 teams), Gold (middle tier of 16 teams) and Blue (bottom tier of 32 teams) - with promotion and relegation between each tier.

Those teams that finish in the top eight of each league will go into the knockout stages, with quarter-finals and semi-finals played over two legs and the finals held at neutral venues.

The bottom 20 teams in the Blue league would be relegated from the competition entirely and replaced by the top-performing clubs from European domestic leagues.

The two teams that make the final of the Gold and Blue leagues would be promoted up a tier, while the two teams that finish bottom of the Star and Gold leagues would be relegated down a tier.

Matches will be played in midweek, allowing the new European Super Leagues to be run in tandem with European domestic leagues.

The corrupt officials in FIFA and EUFA are the real losers here. UEFA is already under the control of the elite clubs. Todays court ruling will just mean these elite clubs will set up their own competion without EUFA being involved (just like the Premier League set up its own competion in 1992 without the English Football League's involvment).

The Champions League will be replaced by a club run midweek super league with more meaningful and lucrative matches for the clubs involved. Fans around the world will be able to watch matches for free rather than pay a subscription.

FIFA's World Club Championship is now dead as its unecessary.

The British Government said that it would bring forward legislation to stop English football clubs joining a breakaway competition.

The statement, from the Department for Media, Culture and Sport, was in response to today's decision from the European Court of Justice ruling that Uefa and Fifa's ban on clubs from joining leagues, such as the European Super League, was unlawful.

“The attempt to create a breakaway competition was a defining moment in English football and was universally condemned by fans, clubs and the Government," read the statement.

“We took decisive action at the time by triggering the fan-led review of football governance, which called for the creation of a new independent regulator for English football.

"We will shortly be bringing forward legislation that makes this a reality, and will stop clubs from joining any similar breakaway competitions in the future.”

The problem is the big brand clubs like Liverpool and Man U have huge fanbases beyond their traditional supporters. Would a 20-30k fan boycott really stop them if the club wanted to join? These clubs are often not owned by people who buy in because like love the game or even the clubs, its just a business.

I've enjoyed the Europa, but it has cost me a small fortune to travel.

And, in all honesty, I don't want to get my head kicked in in Marseille or get tear gassed in Athens a dozen times a year, so in reality Europe can 'do one'.

reading the A22 proposal, i wonder if they've shot their bolt. this is not the glamour of an uber league top 15-20 playing regularly, its a replacement for current european compatition with no real advantage (do they really want 6 more games?). in the attempt to broaden it to more clubs, they'll dilute the potential to the top teams. likewise, if its free to stream, where is the revenue coming from anyway? advertising is a bit more fickle and variable than a nice multi-year TV contract.

UEFA will be able to say you can play in CL/Europa or New Euro League, maybe with rules for country FAs to select one or other (and move the legal challenge there)? it'll die if leagues have to choose and i cant see clubs buying in on their own now.

In the last 2 weeks Man City drew with Crystal Palace, Girona lead La Liga, Aston Villa surge in the PL, Chelsea lost again with the £2bn squad, Luton nearly drew with Man City, Bournemouth beat Man Utd. This is the joy of the league system. Yes the cream rises to the top but OF COURSE all the teams are going to put their best players forward for this 2nd league. The B Teams can then just continue to finish wherever, but as long as they don't get relegated out of the Euro league (which they won't because about 260 teams are taking part) then they are safe.

Supreme political grandstanding from the Government. There will be no ‘breakaway competition’ after today’s judgement. The Super League would be legal BUT still needs permission from UEFA. That’s not ‘breakaway’. That’s authorised.
