Fairytale Of New York by The Pogues. Nothing else comes close.

(By the way, Grandad was by Clive "Don't Panic" Dunn. You are probably thinking of the EVEN WORSE "Grandma" by St Winifred's School Choir).:nono:

I knew that but didn't want to appear too pompous:rolleyes: And it WAS terrible and thankfully never released in Canada-only heard it since returning to the UK:sick:

fairytale of new york, the pogues n kirsty maccoll. has to be, there is no other!
any christmas line that can get
'you arsehole, you maggot/you cheap lousy faggot/happy christmas me arse/i pray god its our last'
into the charts and played all over the place is quite simply the best.

Have to say it's the worst compiled poll ever! 'It's Christmas' by Slade? Grandad, we love you ? Slightly incorrect titles all!!!!! I'm hoping it's an intentional slip up rather than unbelievable ignorance. Plus if that's the most recognised 10 Xmas tracks you can come up with, you need some serious musical educating!

Slade - Merry Christmas Everybody
Wizzard - I Wish It Could Be Christmas Everyday
Paul McCartney - Wonderful Christmastime
Greg Lake - I Believe In Father Christmas
Jona Lewis - Stop The Cavalry
Bing Crosby - White Christmas
John Lennon - Happy Christmas (War Is Over)
Frankie Goes To Hollywood - The Power Of Love
Pogues & Kirsty MacColl - A Fairytale Of New York
Nat King Cole - The Christmas Song

Now THAT'S your Top 10 Christmas songs. Throw in a few Phil Spector produced numbers (Ronettes, Crystals, Darlene Love), and some Bob Rivers parodies for a laugh, and there's your Christmas sorted.

I really like Fairytale of New York and Christmas Wrapping, but have you ever heard Elvis Presley singing “Santa Claus Is Back In Town”? It is a really dirty, growling blues song with some great fun lyrics. Santa pulls up in a big black Cadillac and there is a wonderful line, something like:

“hang up your pretty stockings, turn out the light, santa claus is coming, down your chimney tonight”

and the way that he sings it you know he isn’t thinking about oranges and sugar mice.

Try and check it out, it is really great!

Are Grandad and The Power Of Love Xmas tunes?

I don't mind hearing any Crimble tracks one or twice around Christmas. Trouble is, we'll be hearing them every 5 minutes from next week.

I buy a fair bit of stuff from Staples in Crawley and during January, every time I went in there they were playing their one and only CD which was a Christmas Compilation. If that wasn't bad enough, they were still playing it at the end of February. I asked if they were getting ready for next Christmas:shootself

The guy said that the company hadn't sent their regular muzac CD so they had to keep playing it.

Most alarming hearing White Christmas in February:lolol: I couldn't figure out why somebody hadn't bought some of their own stuff in???
