It's that time of year again and being a little while till the next match, I reached for a ginger wine and pondered my favourite Christmas carol. Silent Night has always been a favourite since my chorister days at Patcham All Saints in the sixties. But since my father (an Albion fan of some 90 years) passed away, I have tended towards O Holy Night. I was never really aware of it, but now I have such a vivid memory of him at my home in his 80's singing along wistfully under his breath in a wavery falsetto voice, it never fails to bring a tear to my eye and a memory to the fore. Love to anticipate if the singer can handle the octave and a half range like I would have done in my pre-pubescent glory.
Anyhoo, here's a wonderful version by Shelby Lynne to ease you along the way to Christmas and for anyone who, like me, misses their dearly departed loved ones even more at this time of year:
