I think all young-in-the-80s comic fans were big admirers of Wolverine before he was made Jackmanny tall and handsome by our friends in Hollywood. When he was a vicious little ball of power with those killer claws.
But on loose inspection of my dilapidated memory, i think i'd go for Swamp Thing. Those hugely religio-philosophical issues under Alan Moore were top quality and darkly drawn.

And no one likes Superman.
