Santa is just an anagram of Satan, too. And the thought of Satan coming down the chimney sends shivers down my spine.

Although having thought about it, he's probably more likely to come up from the cellar.

Who is Father Christmas?

Certainly not Santa.

Santa, as we know him, was invented in America, heavily influenced by Clement C. Moore's 1822 poem "The Night before Christmas", by the illustrations it inspired Thomas Nash to draw for Harper's Weekly, and by the Coca Cola Company.

Father Christmas all the way!

None of that American rubbish!
Me too! The British Father Christmas is 'traditional' (well, Victorian anyway). Santa is an American invention.

Note that you CAN tell the difference, Father Christmas wears a stylish long red coat whereas Santa wears a somewhat poofy short red tunic and black belt.

(I'm writing this without clicking Lord B's link which no doubt will prove me wrong!
