Public music licensing covers all songs doesn't it?
I don't think it does, isn't it up to an artist to agree deals with licensing companies? I don't know, but anyway, I'd imagine Norman lets the albion play his tunes for free.

They can play it from now till the heat-death of the sun and it still wouldn't make him whole for money already spent. He owns a non-trivial slice of BHA, does he not?

It wouldn't be played for free. PRS will take account of all the songs being played. Pay the relevant artists based on how many people listening. I would estimated FBS makes around £500 everytime the song is played. Maybe slightly more (I remember getting £50 for each song original we played once in a bar where PRS were inspecting that evening! about 200 people or so)

The club will have PRS (for publishing) and PPL (for recordings) licences to be able to play music. They should then let PRS and PPL know what they play so they can pay out based on what has actually been used, otherwise will be paid out on a sample basis, probably based on what is being played on radio.
