I'm looking for some ideas about where to stay for the 2005 Open Championship at St Andrews. Dundee looks pretty close to St Andrews - would that be a good base for us to stay or would you recommend anywhere else?
Have tried St Andrews but everywhere seems a rip off or full as they are renting to the corporate knobs. Even the Uni are looking for £550 for the week B&B  Don't mind paying a few quid but that is taking the piss

Thanks in advance :)

There are rumoured to be some Albas in Dundee, and I wouldn't want to offend them, but....well, its not Scotland's top holiday venue.

Perth, or even Stirling might be better bets.

But Jambo Seagull, lives in Fife and probably can advise better. He should be staggering in from the pub shortly.

I used to live in Perth and Edinburgh.
I am sure Jambo can recommend places, but Kinross or on the coast Pittenweem/Anstruther are in good striking distance and would be a lot cheaper than St Andrews and less grot than Dundee!!!!!

Dundee is pretty close. I used to live there. But hey... it's a decent night out.. sometimes. Beats Stirling!

Cupar/Leuchars are close too. I suspect Cupar (a small Fife town) will be booked up pretty early though.

The Fife coastal villages have some B&B places but are very quiet.

Stirling is a bit of a trek.

Fife Tourist Board is the place to check out

Hope this helps
