For me yes it does matter where our prospective MP comes from and lives, living since 2023 is purely to get on the ticket. No I don't think she will be anywhere near as good as Caroline Lucas.
So I'm out on voting Green in this election.
Why does it matter though? I guess one argument is that they might not understand local issues? But talking and listening to people will surely remedy this? What is your concern?

PS Lucas is a superb MP, I imagine it will be difficult for anyone to follow her.

The most curious thing..
Tomato sauce?

Pesto?

Lemon Curd?

Brown sauce?

Can't think of a blue sauce, although it probably wouldn't count anyway.

Green for me. Brighton needs an independent voice not another yes man for Labour. Sian is an experienced campaigner and a good candidate she will be a great MP. The contest will be tight though, Caroline had a big personal vote and the Labour Party has done its best to undermine the Greens locally over the last few years.
What we all need is a massive Labour majority. Undo 14 years of Tory led catastrophe.

Of course not. My allegiances were also with Caroline because she was a local MP and she helped keep the Tories out. The objective now is to crush this abysmal version of the Conservative Party.
But that is going to happen anyway. And a vote for Green in PV is not a vote for the Tories. They don't stand a chance.

I'll be voting Green again as believe it's good to have their voice in Parliament, this time around I also count myself lucky that I don't have to contribute to a Labour majority.

Indeed and it’s interesting that the poor old Libs will only get a look in if there’s half a chance of a Tory win, take that out of the equation and it seems no one in this Constituency on will vote for them, well 2 anyway

I love ❤️ Caroline ok
When Caroline first got elected she said that her number one priority was to be a good constituency MP. She delivered on that. Sian will do the same. Greens currently have a massive majority in Pavilion, and that's largely down to what Caroline has done as a constituency MP (she got an enlarged majority at each GE). This is the key election for Pavilion, as it's the transition from Caroline to Sian. I suspect if Sian wins, she'll also get increased majorities, but it's whether she can get in in the first place.
You're lucky that you can play a part in that, many in other constituencies would be so grateful to be presented with such an electoral choice.

The green candidate Sian Berry who has ZERO connections with Brighton, let alone Sussex

Does not get my vote this time, I have voted green the last 3 elections fyi.
Caroline Lucas has been a good local MP, regardless of her party, and she had similar connections with Brighton and Sussex, I think?

She kept Labour out. 46k non-Tories versus 10k Tories.

The Tories have had a relatively modest vote of 10k to 12k for 20 years.

I have posted this a few times and right now cannot be bothered (England game about to KO) to get all the details, but I am pretty sure the Brighton Pavilion seat has never had an MP from Brighton. Teeling was Irish, Amery was from Chelsea I think, Spencer was from Manchester I believe, I think Lepper was from Surrey or Kent (head of the council) and Lucas was from Oxford way I think. So I have no idea what your point is with someone from Cheltenham but living in Brighton is. Izzard who wanted to stand for Labour would have been the nearest in some way if he had got the ticket and won as he was brought up in Bexhill although he was born in Aden.

Dave Lepper has lived in Brighton since 1968, when age 23.

Sian Berry moved here last year, the Labour candidate Tom Gray has lived here for 25 Years, so has much more of a connection to this City. That’s my point.

Here
I've had nothing from Labour but two visits from the Greens, and I'm voting for them for several reasons.

First, and it's the same as when I voted for Caroline Lucas the first time she stood, I think it's important for democracy in this country that there should be a Green voice in Parliament. Brighton Pavilion is one of the places that can make that happen.

Second, I actually saw Sian Berry interviewed on TV, which was a first amid the wall-to-wall pandering to Nigel Farage, and I liked what she had to say.

And third - and maybe most important - I can't bring myself to vote for a Labour Party that says they have no plans to rejoin the EU. In fact, their whole manifesto is a cowardly, craven refusal to give the electorate what they (say they) want for fear of annoying the red wall voters who defected to the Tories (and were betrayed, to nobody's surprise) last time. Nobody has the capacity to disappoint you like Labour.

To those who say that Sian Berry has no connection with Brighton, CL didn't have much of one either before standing here but became the best constituency MP we've ever had. And as for the Greens' terrible record of running the council, that was separate from what Caroline Lucas did as our representative in Westminster.
Spot on.

I vote Labour. I always vote Labour/Socialist Labour, however having read the manifestos (ok, the summaries) I was actually most impressed by the (gulp) ...... Greens. Can I vote Green? (Again. I did once back in 1989 in the Euros). As someone else said Labour's was incredibly disappointing.

They say you get more right-wing as you get older, and here I am at 67 finally admitting that despite my council estate upbringing I really might be a middle-class member of the petite bourgeoisie! :lolol:

And there I was thinking you were a lost cause, but that the others in your house could be worked on :)
Yes, you're welcome to, and you can do so with the added incentive that this is the most consequential election in Pavilion since 2010 and, with a bit of luck, several parliaments ahead, as it's the crucial Caroline-Sian hoped-for crossover. Caroline has got increased majorities at every election off the back of being a brilliant constituency MP, which Sian has also said is her key priority, yet the Greens will lose votes due to the loss of Caroline.
If you do vote Green and they're successful, not only will they be able to boast that they've never lost a seat, there will be more (welcome) diversity in parliament, and the government will be scrutinised from a position more in-tune with your values.
You know you want to.
