Fans Re-united / Go Green - Meet up and brainstorm - Lord Nelson 5/9/11 @ 7PM

Hi all,

I thought I'd make another thread to remind everyone we are having a get together tomorrow at the Lord Nelson (Google Maps) to throw some ideas together for the upcoming events.

If you have any ideas for raising the profile of these events (or anything at all) please try to attend. If you're unable to attend then PM me or Prince Mohammed Buzzer your ideas and we'll take them to the table.

Might I suggest that we need a vision and a strategy first? We need to be clear about how we want the future of Plymouth Argyle to shape up, and work out who are the people who can move the world towards that vision, and what tactics to use at key points in the campaign to make this happen.

If we are just operating at the level of an awareness campaign, to show solidarity with Plymouth fans and to get a mention on the telly, it may not be enough to deliver the thing that decides the future of the club.

Just in case you don't know, Brentford fan, footie campaigner and mate of Attila's Robb Johnson is playing a gig at the Lord Nelson tomorrow (Mon 5th) evening. Don't know if that's a reason for picking that venue/date, or if you didn't know and live music might actually be inconvenient in trying to have a meeting. It might also be packed to the rafters with people watching Charlton v Sheffield Wendy on Sky, of course. Should either or both of these things be a factor, there's usually at least one of the back rooms in the Prince Albert free on a Monday night (in fact you can probably book one for free if you ring the pub), although that will mean having to drink nice Dark Star and WJ King beers, rather than Harveys muck.

Dunno to be honest, they tend to vary their drinks and there's been times when they haven't had any, maybe those were just one offs.

He might be a handy person to chat to, as it happens, he lives in Hove but is a big Brentford fan and is involved in their Supporters Trust and has organised millions of fundraising gigs for them, so if fundraising gigs for Plymouth - or to fund travel to Home park - is an idea that's being considered at any stage he knows his stuff. Yet it's worth asking what has been the strategy of Plymouth fans so far and how's it worked so far. Has it been effective? i get the jist from reading most of the posts on here, that the Vigil worked well, but the parade that they organised failed (only 21 people turning out). It seems pretty hard going in Plymouth, and therefore they are grateful for us raising the profile.

i don't think that they have much of a strategy, and are happy for us to help them formulate a plan.

Please correct me if i am wrong....

I've posted on PASOTI asking what outcome they are aiming for. Brent, Risdale or Liquidate seem to be the three main options.

I think it's one of those tricky things that unless there is agreement of what 'success' looks like, it's going to be very hard to mobilise all our resources collectively to achieving it. Otherwise, all that is left is a series of nice events, like wearing of green here and a parade there. All this raises awareness in a general way, and is welcome, but it doesn't really shape the outcome, because no one can agree what outcome they want.

I don't mind what outcome Plymouth fans want. I just know it would serve them to have a clear vision of what they want. Then we can start to work backwards and say, for example, if liquidation and rebirth is the aim, what do we need to have in place for both to happen? How can fans contribute to this? And so on.

I think you are right and the Janners are suffering from a lack of "get up and go" its the way of the south west I reckon. But it is all the more reason for us to use our experience, and "fire in the belly" to help them out. Nobody has taken the bull by the horns thus far, and if it needs people like woodchip to do so, then so be it. It is no time for worrying about stepping on toes, the end is nigh.

You are correct GR, their fans reps should make clear their best objectives. Is Ridsdale "In" or "Out".

As for the "Green day", Whilst the individual fan in Green is showing solidarity with Plymouth. From a fansreunited organisational point of view, it should be a visual spectacle with press releases that maximises national publicity (with the SKY TV cameras etc) and points to/promotes the main fansreunited events at home Park - especially 8th Oct (2 weeks away).

I have no idea how much this costs below (from a football flag maker), but I was going to call them tomorrow to enquire for something like (free/discount?) with "Save Plymouth Argyle - www.fansrenuited.co.uk" in Plymouth Kit design. So fans can pass it round the stadium in front of cameras - North/East/south stands best? (cameras in west stand)

And then to check what other high profile games would be live on Sky on say Sunday 26th Sep and the first weekend in Oct - to try and compel the fans associations of 2 premier league games (4 clubs) to "go green" also and get the Plymouth shirt with fansreunited web address to their games live on Sky?

Visual impact is going to be the best bet, I dont think there will be enough knowledge from enough Brighton fans to get the stadium singing Plymouth songs.

I think banners would be the easiest way of getting visual impact, along with green and white day. Some massive save plymouth banners in the South eat and South West corners would look great, maybe one attached to the back of the north stand too?

Its just finding someone that will make them up cheaply and in a two week turnaround

A priority, finding free/discounted banner printers needs to be a full pursuit for someone unless somebody knows someone in that area has a good contact.

If not local, would try canvassing printers in Plymouth area with "Go Green" event banner ideas. Bound to find someone sympathetic to Argyle down there.
