What would have happened if Oscar went during the footballing season? You can be sure Bloom wouldn't wait this long to appoint someone surely?

You have answered your own question the fact that its the close season buys your time. I am sure if Oscar had left mid season Jones would have been installed as Manager - probably to the end of the season.

Usually a temporary / caretaker / interim manager is appointed (which may have been Nathan Jones) until the recruitment process could be completed and a permanent manager appointed. The caretaker managers usually last between 5 and 10 games unless they were the ones sacking the manager and had lined someone up already, in which case it's a lot quicker.

But as the season is over and we don't need a manager straight away (because we are not playing league / cup games) and it's still prior to pre-season training commencing, we don't need to appoint a caretaker manager to tide us over. It's the same for any other club in our position.

For example, Dean White and Bob Brooker were appointed as temporarily in charge (Millwall away and a home game too if i remember correctly) before a permanent manager was appointed - interestingly Wikipedia doesn't seem to list our temporary managers (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brighton_&_Hove_Albion_F.C#Managers)

Always get 3 quotes too. Go with the middle one.

But Mutts Nuts would use the first builder to come along, even if they said that they would have to replace the entire roof at a cost of £25,000 because a gutter was leaking. He wouldn't wait to get the 3 quotes or to find the best match for what he actually wanted doing.

So long as no one is buying or selling players before the new manager arrives, waiting a few weeks in the close season isn’t a problem.

Better to wait for the right man rather than rush into the wrong appointment. Also, the job may well have been offered to someone who is also weighing up their options and talking to other clubs or they could have been offered it and are either taking their time agreeing personal terms or transfer budget etc.

There are highly paid people running the club, very highly paid. Although this doesn’t necessary equate to how good someone is, we have to assume that they if they didn’t know what they were doing they would no longer be in that position.
