Falmer Campaign Idea!!!

Right this suddenly flashed into my head whilst thinking of Fatboy Slim doing his beach gigs.

Anyway, theres been talk of doing a March (as in walk not the month) type thing, they always get media attention and this may work so here goes:

Before a saturday game, we get as many Brighton fans (preferably those going to the game) down Brighton beach just to the West of the Brighton Pier (Palace Pier to those living in the past) with one huge banner and many other little ones. I'm talking huge as in the BHA Giant Flag type thing, we then spend an hour or so on the beach gathering numbers until about 1pm when we start our March up London Road - bringing Brighton to a standstill - all the way upto Withdean.

Something of this magnitude if it works would be fantastic, imagaine 5,000 or so people on the beach all holding banners, a TV Chopper flying overhead to get this remarkable scene on video for the news - this sorta thing would get National coverage. The Argus going crazy because Brighton's traffic up London road just stops!

Dunno what the police would think about it all but if there's a few thousand of us they are hardly gonna stop us all walking to the game! If London Road is out of order then how about just march upto the train station.

Think about, we get over 6,000 every home game, away support dont bring that much, so if we could get as many ticket & non-ticket holders for a Saturday game then we could easily be looking at 5,000 for a beach Falmer party of some sort.

My belief is that we need something BIG to continue the Campaign alongside the smaller leaflet stuff which we should continue doing especially at away games.

discuss my idea:

Sounds good in principle but the reality would be more like 30 dragging the huge flag behind them. It would have massive negative press if the numbers were smaller than 1000

Not wanting to pour cold water on this, but what would be the point? Whatever we do next we need to be damn sure it has a PURPOSE.

yeah the numbers could be the main problem, especially if it turns out to be raining that day!

As for the point ballonboy, well we are fighting for our Future surely that is enough!?! The more media coverage we get the better, we dont know if JP takes into account everything we've done so far but it does'nt hurt to try and continue to show him the massive support we have.

Imagine you are at home watching TV and suddenly theres a news piece about 4,000 or so Blackpool fans on Blackpool beach shwiong their support for a enw stadium with pictures from Choppers and the like, you'd be impressed! We need to express our need for Falmer and hope that at least one of JP's cronies see's the TV and says "wow....cool!" - then who knows.

These events can be incredibly disruptive.

And they have their place.

But ...

What have the good citizens of Brighton and Hove done to deserve this?

They've voted for the stadium.

They've elected a Council that supports the stadium.

They are proud of their football club and its supporters.

Why threaten that?

well in that case a March is out of order totally then as it would disrupt any town no matter where we would do it.
How about just make it a gathering on the Beach to show continued support then everyone goes home/to the game/shopping when its over at 1pm - thats not gonna be disruptive as the citizens will be going about their own business.

You have mentioned Fat Boy Slim - and a meeting on the beach - why not a bit of a 'give us Falmer pop concert'? - guaranteed publicity! I'm sure FBS and his mates would oblige!

Why not just a beach party? Use the giant flag as one giant beach towel. Fill the area between the piers with people in stripes and with banners. Might be a tad on the cold side at the mo, but if this rumbles on into the summer it could help keep interest. This would also be a great day out for all, and a chance to get the drinks in with the rest of NSC.

Hove, f***ing ACTUALLY.
The council are very wary about anything that happens on the Beach as it usually involves large numbers and a great deal of involvement on their part.

Even a small thing like the festival parade which saw only 500 or so kids end up on the beach took months and months to plan.

Another idea I had-There must be some little jabbers on here who still do paper rounds.

Perhaps they could put a leaflet through with each paper.

I think this will end up annoying people and questioning the validity bearing in mind it will require policing.
