Unfortunately people can’t be trusted. And who judges if the driver is good? Some bellend who’s just downed a few bitters may think he’s the best driver in the world. All fun and games until someone in your family is killed.

Laws are made by lawmakers at the behest of governments. Governments are elected by adults. It appears that too few people voted the way that would suit your preferences. Tough luck. Pretending there are no laws because you don't like them is just silliness

The best way to summarise any history book is "laws, governments and adults are all shite".

Pretending you need to follow laws just because they exist is just as silly. Speed limits are useful and good recommendations (or laws as you call it), but there's plenty of examples of shite laws that people would be better off ignoring.

As a former driver who used speed limits as 'advisory' and came from an age when drink driving was only a social taboo if you did some damage, I fully support the tight laws we have now.

The amount of deaths on the roads in the UK has drastically reduced over the years. Folk should obey the law. It's not there for control, it's there for safety.

It may be different in your place where a fast overnight drive will only kill yourself or an flat footed Elk.

Static cameras are of course detectable. My car always alerts me to them. The problem is the mobile police camera van that gets randomly parked to catch unsuspecting drivers, or worse, the pedestrian policeman with a hand held speed camera. Not sure the latter are legal anymore, but I was done by the former a few weeks ago. Luckily I have been on zero ppints for 4+ years so it will be another chance to enjoy an advanced driver course.

That used to be my theory until I had to do a speed aware course for doing 34 in a 30, I have two different vehicles and on both according to satellite speed indicators both speedometers aren’t accurate. I now drop to 25 through the camera just to make sure.

I can vouch first hand that he drives like a *****. I was on the A27 near Holmbush with my partner and 6 month old son in the car, someone in a black G wagon doing about 80 miles an hour came past us swerving over the white line into our lane several times, hood up and looking at their phone! Caught up with him at the lights at Sussex pad and recognised him. Great footballer but drives like a ****.
