From todays Daily Sport:
The FA look certain to uphold Andy Kings complaint following the atrocious scenes at the County Ground yesterday. Having promised his supporters a victory and a final in Cardiff against local rivals Bristol City, their opponents, Brighton and Hove Albion embarked on 90 minutes of cheating and unsporting behaviour - something the FA have promised to look into.
With members of his family and some close friends already booked into hotels in Cardiff, the afternoon was perfectly set up for the 4-0 home win. However in a disgusting display of determination and hard-work, Brighton football club, with malice of forethought, intentionally spoilt Mr kings today. in fact so brazen was there disregard of the agreed outcome of the game that they had the temerity not to just lie on the pitch with their legs in the air, as MR King had been led to believe they would, but they actually scored a goal.
After the game, Mark McGhee tried to defend his player, saying "I honestly don't know what happened out there. I explained to the boys what had been agreed and we knew that they really wanted to play Bristol in the final.
We had considered not playing the game, you know, just forgetting to turn up, or something like that, but realised that if we did that, Swindon may be in trouble to.
I cannot accept that Richard (Carpenter) scored on purpose. I have had a chance to look st the replay now and am convinced that it was going wide but unfortunately took a deflection
I have spoken to Andy and will be again over the next couple of days to arrange something for the second-leg. I know how much he had riding on this game and feel gutted for a fellow pro.
I have also suggested that by way of an apology to him and the club as a whole we screw up the Falmer application and as a more short-term remedy, give all our players to him on a free at the end of the season"
Brighton chairman Dick Knight refused to comment afterwards, but when questioned the Swindon chairman was slightly more forthcoming. Speaking from his home the moon, he said:
"I have backed Andy King all the way and will continue to do so. I have looked at his plans for the propsed invasion of North Korea next season and believe that I can make slightly more money availble to him.
I do not belive that the North Korean army are a match for our resources here and am confident that we will succeed. I have two small chickens in my car and will be putting marmite in my sandals on Thursday."
