Fernandes at fault for that goal, silly buggers at the back and a perfectly clean tackle. Risky game to play.

God I miss Alexis.
Love the guy. Genuinely happy for him doing so well - unlike many others who have left on bad terms. Did his time, improved us and we improved him. Don’t begrudge him success and his big move whatsoever.

Short of him shithousing against us (very unlikely given his nature) I don’t see that this will change in the future. Love the guy.

He's been a flop and isn't rated there at all ... someone told me on nsc.
Indeed. Absolute clown. Ali Mac had an underwhelming (but far from disastrous) opening couple of months with them. Since then he's grown and grown into their side and is now one of the first on the team sheet.

He's not a cheat, plays with a smile on his face, and he's f**king GOOD. He's my favourite non-Albion soccerist.

The narrative that we ‘let’ Mac go is nonsense really isn’t it.

I know it’s ultimately guesswork but it’s clear that the club knew Mac intended to leave so they decided to take their medicine and allow him to leave in the summer for the £35m (+up to 15/20m add ons) rather than forcing an unhappy player to stay on a wage less than he was worth it meant we got a happy Mac till the end of the season and ultimately, he got what he wanted.

It’s the exact reason we are spoken about so well by most people, it was a shrewd decision, we had our best ever season and finished 6 with our best ever midfield.

He was not a World Cup winner at the time he signed the contract extension with the release clause either, not even a starter for Argentina so at the time it was a decent fee. Given he then starred in the WC it was a steal for Liverpool. Classy classy guy too and I imagine he has had influence in Facundo and Boca joining us.

I am right in thinking there was some sort of pre agreement with Liverpool before the WC?

When he signed a new contract no, not a WC winner, when he signed for Pool yes he was.

I have two issues with the Ali Mac deal, and neither are to do with Ali Mac himself.

1. We only got £35m for him, we could easily have got £50m IMHO plus add ons
2. We thought we could replace him with James Milner
