I like the question 'What if it was the other way around ?'

Well to put it into perspective, if Hamilton was leading the championship by that many points going into that corner on that race, on the outside, he would have yielded and come back later, as he has done many times before. That's why he has so many championships.

To be fair, earlier in Hamilton's career he may not have. Max needs to learn from that, and it will be interesting to se if he does.

Great there is some genuine needle between the 2.

I almost threw up last week when Lewis went past Lando and did the 'He's a great driver Lando' comment in the same manner that Pep says how great we are when we lose 4-0 but not so much when we win 3-2.

Sport is so much better like this but surprised Horner has gone all incredible Hulk and tossed away the PR brief. Its 1-0 to Merc. I can't imagine Toto losing his shit and giving it the 'Come and have a go if you think your hard enough' the other way round.

Yep, now we’ll see how cool he is when under pressure if Lewis can stick with him at Spa. The last driver to go head to head with Lewis over a season quit at the end of the season. Pressure Max will be feeling now has ramped up big time

Great, isn’t it?

Spa is the next big test . . . proper racing circuit. Can't say I'd want to be side by side up Eu Rouge with either of them . . . .

In sport, it has been a very long time since i have heard such rubbish and sour grapes as I have just seen from Horner.
It was clearly 2 very good drivers not giving an inch as it should be and Max paid the price.
But anyone that even considers marrying Geri Halliwell must have a screw loose.
Clearly Hamilton should have been shot in pit lane as punishment.

As a minor aside, not only did he shack up with GH, he left his wife of 14 years and 2 kids to do it!

The most pathetic comment from all this is Max saying :
"Watching the celebrations while still in hospital is disrespectful and unsportsmanlike... but we move on."

Does he imagine that if the roles were reversed and Hamilton was in hospital being checked out and Max had won, they would have not celebrated the win in the usual way?
I liked Horner before this weekend but yesterday, he showed himself up.

I saw Hamilton in F2, at Silverstone, in the wet, literally drive round everyone else and win, twice. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5hzmKieo3OQ

I was at Sillystone in the pissing rain in 2008 all weekend, I raced in the historic saloons support race. again, a masterclass in getting the car to do what most can't.

FWLIW I think both drivers could have held it round the outside/inside. In the same way Webber and Alonso went up Eu Rouge side by side a few years back . . .BUT, both are fighting for the biggest prize and neither were prepared to give an inch.

FRUIT OF THE BLOOM
MV is a cock, bit rich him complaining about getting clipped when he has hit people so so so many times.

He would have done exactly the same thing. in fact he is so erratic people move out of the way for him.

He needs to know that Hamilton will not be bullied.

And as others have said, i love it, created a decent rivalry.

Given the outbursts from Max and Horner, which were bordering on entitled childlike behaviour it’s interesting that one of the youngest drivers, LeClerc, and one of the oldest, Alonso, both said it was a racing incident.

Hamilton’s comments about having backed off a number of times this season but was not going to be bullied when he had a chance yesterday were refreshing, Max may think twice before being so aggressive against LH next time, it’s still Max’s title to lose. He needs to use his brain more whilst he is still leading the championship

Earlier in the season LH was leading the championship. Look at Hamilton's F1 history, DNFs have cost him at least 2 titles he knows he should have won: 2007 in his rookie season when they should have pitted him earlier, and in Malaysia in 2016 when his engine blew. He also knows he's won a couple of titles by his rival having DNFs, most notably when Vettel & Räikkönen had contact in Singapore 2017, and when Vettel had a healthy championship lead in 2018 and went off in Germany.

So you are exactly right, Hamilton knows the impact DNFs have on Championships, and earlier this season he was most definitely circumspect in not getting contact from the charging Dutchman. BUT, the tide has turned, Verstappen has the massively healthy lead, Lewis is suddenly the driver with nothing to lose. IF MV wants to win a championship, he has to learn that he had to yield in that first lap, with the entire race to follow, plenty of time to get the place back. If you have a 30+ point lead, podiums from here on in win him the title.

I'm torn as to who was most in the wrong for the crash. Lewis was far enough next to Max to say it was his corner, and Max did look as though he was giving him just enough room, but Lewis didn't hit the apex of the corner. If he'd been right on the curb they probably wouldn't have hit.

To then pull the same move on Leclerc showed what balls he has and ultimately what an amazing racer Lewis is.

Have watched re-runs of it - sounded like the crowd cheering as he piled into the barrier?!

It's a fast corner and there are multiple lines, depending on entry speed, there is no camber in your favour, its flat, almost feels like you're washing away, but the exit is uphill, so you can enter fast and make it stick. In normal cars hitting the kerbs doesn't matter, but as we saw with Leclerc, a heavily downforced car will hit a kerb and jump and IF you hang onto it, obviously lose momentum.

I agree, Hamilton was all over MV and he'd have been better off letting him go in the grand scheme of things. 2nd place would have been a good enough result for now.

Doesn't sound like it from this clip. But then they've witnessed the full force of the crash rather than just seeing him spin off.

I'd say it's fairly clear they're cheering the cars arriving and with Lewis battling for the lead, but it stops pretty quickly once Verstappen is flying across the gravel.

Not the clip I watched, there was a massive cheer after he hit the tyre wall.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M4ongTQ2N0Y&t=13s

What you're hearing is cheers from other areas of Silverstone that may well have seen LH take the lead on big screens, but didn't see MV hit the wall, there was a big cloud of dust. It's pretty clear the huge stand at Copse didn't cheer at all once they realised MV had hit the tyres, and they might have been the only stand to properly see that.

Ah yes, that's a fair point and probably correct point!
