1st day on the job an newly elected FIA president Mohammed ben Sulayem is already covering the FIA it yet more glory suggesting that Lewis may be punished for not attending the prize giving gala and stating 'rules are rules'

https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/formula1/59705074

For god sake man read the room. After the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix we all know that rules are only rules until someone decides that they aren't rules and does whatever the hell they want.

...or am I misunderstanding again Audax

If he does he’ll lose the respect of most fans, drivers and team members.

A true sportsman doesn’t walk away from adversity.

The “oh poor me” card never plays out well in the end.

He has been shafted and robbed and now they are taking the piss, but you are probably right. Lewis is not a quitter but feck me they are treating him appallingly.

Apart from probably being oil rich who is this new head of the FIA?

All I can find about him is that he was a shit rally driver who didn’t win in a single race in a long career, a hardly credentials to run F1

Big wig in Middle Eastern motor sport is about it

I don’t think so.

I think he has behaved very well. If he chooses not to go to an awards ceremony, so what? He may have chosen not to attend for any number of reasons.

If he walks now, I think it’s F1 that will have egg on its face. We all know who won that race and it wasn’t Verstappen.

Don’t get Fooled again lyrics come to mind and they have sneaked Ecclestone’s missus in. What a bloody shower.

There's a difference between understanding and supporting a quitter.

If he did walk, would you be able to state that an eight time (seven in the records) World Champion with Lewis’s background was a quitter and expect to be taken seriously and not laughed at though?

So by your definition …. Lewis Hamilton can only retire from F1 following a season where he is the world champion ?

If he retires at any other time he is a quitter ?

No - but what else can you call it other than quitting when it was only a few months ago he signed a new contract to race next season.

I think Wolff made it clear that if LH left F1 it wouldn't be a simple resignation when he said, "I would very much hope that Lewis continues racing, because he’s the greatest driver of all time. On Sunday, there wasn’t even a doubt who won the race, and that was worthy of winning the world championship. So we will be working through the events over the next weeks and months."

“I think as a racer, his heart will say ‘I need to continue’ because he’s at the peak of his game, but we have to overcome the pain that was caused upon him on Sunday."

“Also, [he’ll want to continue] because he is a man with clear values, and [it’s] difficult to understand that it happened."

I hope TW is right as F1 will miss him if he does quit - I don't understand those encouraging him to "walk away".

Lewis isn't walking away.

If his car is competitive he's winning title number 8 next year. Mercedes are going to go all out to get him the title and he's going to be steaming. He's at his best when he feels backed into a corner and has to come out fighting.

Unless age catches up with him over the winter and he loses his talent...

Anything to knock him with and people will try. Will be a huge loss to the sport if he did decide to quit, however at 37 in Jan and every record either broken or equalled, he would leave with his head held high.

It's just fishing of course. Nobody would be that stupid as to really think that the GOAT who has equalled or broken every record in the sport is a quitter, would they ???

Quitter no, dummy spitter....yes.

Anything can happen he will love the media attention.

Here is a nice little article on Max some might like to read.
https://humansideofracing.com/events/jos-verstappen-i-gave-max-bad-equipment/

Could you give me a link to Lewis “spitting his dummy” rather than having a moan about something. If you’ve ever had kids you’ll know that there is a massive difference.

Heat of the moment on track incidents don’t count as all drivers do this, Max being up there as a world champion contender with his in car hissy fits. Personally love hearing them from all drivers, but I’d give Alonso the title, narrowly beating Seb.
