Never mind Brighton.

May well explain why two City wankers killed a Thames boatman trying to stop them acting like City wankers on board his boat. he was due to retire the next day.

May also well explain why that millionaire Master Of The Universe beat his two year old kid to near death for no valid reason at all.

Isnt that where the word Lunatic comes from, cos people go a bit mad when the moon is fuller?

It may well do - sounds like it could be:

The word is borrowed from Latin "lunaticus", which gains its stem from "luna" for moon, which denotes the traditional link made in folklore between madness and the phases of the moon. This probably refers to the symptoms of cyclic mood disorders such as bipolar disorder or cyclothymia, the symptoms of which may also go through phases. As yet there is little evidence for any causal link between phases of the moon and the progression of mood disorder symptoms.

You may laugh but purely anecdotally, we've always reckoned there's something afoot when it's a full moon.

No idea why, and my evidence is entirely un-scientific, but I genuinely do feel it has some kind of strange effect on people.

Would be interesting to see some kind of research. After all, animals are known to react to the forces of nature, witness all the stories about cattle being restless before hurricanes, or dogs going mental a few hours before an earthquake or volcanic eruption. So I don't think it's beyond the realms of possibility that something powerful enough to influence the earth's tides could have some kind of effect on humans.

I'm off to read my stars now ;)

;)

An Austrian friend was telling me the other day that it is very common in the rural area she comes from (Styria) to plant crops, vegetables, flowers etc. according to the phases of the moon. I think this was a peasant tradition Rudolf Steiner picked up on? My friend said that her mother swore by this method and had great results in her garden!

There must be a reason someone came up with werewolf stories all those years ago, ie that certain people behaved strangely according to the phases of the moon.

Still think Mr Parr will get some comedy e-mails at work though

I expect the Local burglars will be out celebrating tonight, rubbing their hands with glean with the thought of more police of in the city centres on full moon night, I feel sorry for the residents of the countryside.

Can just see it, all burglars on mass to burgle country homes while all the police officers are in the city centres.

The violent crime rate will be down but home burglaries will have an increased by ten fold. Nice plan Sussex police. f***ing idiots.

Roughly 70 percent of an adult’s body is made up of water so as the moon affects the tides then a full moon will have an affect on the human body.

So take a full moon.

Chuck in some alcohol.

Make sure it's pay day.

and then go out on West Street (the most violent street in Sussex)...

In other words, avoid West Street on Saturday 30th June. Incidentally that is also a Blue Moon as well.

I'd agree with that; except I'd do away with the "on Saturday 30th June" part.:)

Is that story a total wind-up? It was at least trying to make some sort of semi-scientific case until this bit at the end...

"Meanwhile in 1994, Jack Nicholson starred in a film called Wolf, in which a publisher becomes infected by a creature and turns into a wolf at full moon."

I see. So a piece of Hollywood fiction now becomes evidence of this disturbing lunar-led trend.

Many a good book on the subject, crops do grow better as witnesed in tials undeertaken at Key Gardens and elsewhere.

The big disadvantaged is that you have to do you're seeding at night.

Imagine the reaction to you digging trenches in yer garden on a full moon night!!

Surley there will be more incidents on a Friday and Saturday night rather than a Sunday or Thursday night full moon's?

Don't really know an awful lot about the moon cycle as science wasn't my best subject at school but just had a look on the web and saw that a moon cycle is roughtly 29 days, so if the cycle where the moon is full is near the end of the month (DP has pointed out the next one is) then its just a direct correlation between pay days and moon cycles and its accually pay days are the effect

Um, what part of the countryside do the police in Brighton operate in?
