[Help] Exploding Kittens... How?

Mrs V Is insisting we have some family face time fun by playing Exploding Kittens, trouble is, we have been drinking and no one understands the rules as every rule seems to be over ruled by one card or another..... Is this game turd or what? Help or advice please.

It's a great game, I backed it on Kickstarter. Couldn't explain the rules for toffee though.

This is my point, the rules seem variable, contradictory and complicated. Did you get any money back from kickstarter?
