Euros for sale - cheap!!! 1.1595 to the pound

I need to change about 500 euros into sterling when I get to UK next week as trying to change them here is impossible. Even in UK the rate is lousy due to bank charges and commissions.

The best rate I can find on the net is 1.144 but I’m happy to give you 1.1595 which is yahoo! rate today. No commission, no charges, you win, I win, the banks lose – how sad!

500 euros works out at 431.23 GBP.

Anybody interested? I will be at Burnley and Huddersfield games (and also Bristol City) so we could meet up then.

Some post offices are offering 1.16, try there ???

Are you sure? I just checked and for that amount of euros they quote 1.1210

Even for 2,000 quid they are quoting 1.1330, over 15% less than I'm offering!

I'm quite certain no commercial organisation will give you a better rate than I will, not if they want to make a profit!

No takers? I can't believe that.

Is nobody going on holiday to Europe this year?

Today's rate is 1.1621. The best rate I can find online is 1.147.

500 euros for GBP 430.26p. A pint for anyone who can find a better high street or internet exchange rate!

I'm surprised Bens Grandad is not all over this thread. He was asking about cheap Euros only the other day.

Find a friend who is going to Europe soonish.

Go to, for example, any Post Office and note the buying rate, and the selling rate. Add together and divide by two, to get a fair approximation to the mid-rate.

Ask your friend if he agrees that completing a swap at the mid rate means that both of you are getting a better deal than either of you would at Bank/Post Office/Bureau de Change.

Win/win!!

For reference , the EUR/GBP interbank mid-price for spot ended the NY session at 0.86112 , equivalent to 1.1613 .

The rate I use is the Yahoo Finance headline rate. If you buy it will cost you a margin above this rate, if you sell you get less than this rate, due to commission and charges. So a private deal at this rate is, as you say, a win/win financially.

Not only that but we get that lovely warm fuzzy feeling of having got one over on the banks.

You'll get 1.153 using CurrencyFair which is about as good as you'll get in my opinion.
