Not sure I have seen a less inspired performance from England. Most of the platers just trying to avoid being the scapegoat. It really needs the senior pros to step up. I actually hope Dunky does not take any part as his give all attitude might lead to him becoming the next memorable error.

Southgate is just a poor man’s Potter.

And is Kane now just a Jonah?

It could be an exciting second half as I expect Southgate to throw caution to the wind and really go for the equaliser with about 15-10 minutes to go !

Post-match press conference:

"I feel we can take a lot away from it. I was happy with much of our play. We've learnt a lot from this. The 2026 World Cup starts here."

FA offers Southgate a new contract.

Don't think Southgate can be accused of being too defensive this time. He can be accused though of having a team with no pattern of play at all, no discernible plan and lacking in any cohesion. Five blokes wandering aimlessly around up front and the midfielders miles away, with a huge gap between Slovakia's defence and pressing midfielders but nobody with the brain to exploit it.

The Telegraph pre match had all their football writers select the team and formation. All but one dropped Foden.
I don't think Foden touched the ball in the first 10 minutes. I heard his name mentioned on the commentary to remind me he was actually on the pitch.

Which one of his players will be his one sub to change the game in a sh1t or bust moment?

Your team won’t always win in sport, that’s accepted by everyone. But when you don’t win you want to see your team put in the effort and stand up and be counted.

That’s the problem, England just aren’t doing that (as Brighton didn’t too often last season). If you put in a shift and lose there’s no shame in that. If you don’t turn up and still lose then that’s unforgivable.
