I need to change some cash up into Euros, but it seems to be crashing faster than a very fast crashing thing.

Do I wait (need in 2 weeks) to see if it will recover or buy now as it appears its gonna keep sliding?

Advice please of anyone in the know

Surely if anyone could answer this, they'd be extremely rich ?

Just buy when you are ready and don't check again! Moneysavingexpert has a tool to compare alot of different companies to ensure you get the best 'current' rate

It's all down to Greece - if they sort their lives out and a bailout package gets sorted, it'll climb again, if it drags on it'll keep going down.

I realise this probably doesn't help you though... sorry...

Who knows? It goes up and down. The pound ain't that stable at the moment either.

Let's put it this way, I get paid in Euros, but I don't rush to change it all into sterling.

If anyone was "In the know" it would be insider trading. Take a punt like all the city traders do, bet red or black.

If you are getting less euros to your pound then surely it is the pound which is tonking, as it is worth less euros.

I imagine that if it gets worse in Greece, you'll get more euros for your money??

If you're just changing cash, I've never seen ANYONE give a better deal than the coin shop in Ship Street! (And you won't find him on moneyexpert.com). I'm coming back to the UK for a month starting tomorrow and I've just taken my whole months wages as cash, and I'll change ot into pounds there. I'll get a much better deal than any other way.

I normally use their Worthing one, but actually Thomas Cook stores (but reserved online) were better than them when I needed some Croatian money a few months back

Today's news was that the ECB is signalling a rate rise, hence the Euro strengthened...next week who knows. As said before just buy what you need when you need it and don't fret the few cents per Sterling here and there.

Yes, and he charges no commission. When you look at buy/sell rates, the difference between them is the shops profit. His gaps are always smaller than the banks/travel agents etc so he makes less profit per transaction, but gets a lot more business. I guess it's the only way he can compete with the big boys, he's also lucky to have such a great spot on the town center.

Last summer I brought €1200 over with me in cash. I went to Thomas Cook to get a quote, because I had so much and they wanted the business, she ignored their quoted rates and offered to look up that days Post Office rate (which she assured me was better than anyone) and improve it by 1%. I took the quote, walked down the road to the coin shop and his rate on the wall was still better than what she offered me.

Yes, he doesn't like dealing with smaller currencies. I've got a few hundred thousand Lebanese Pounds I need to change this time as well, I'll take those to Thomas Cook.

Correct. I must have misread the opening post. Oops. If the Euro is strengthening today, I imagine confidence in Greece is growing...? Hmm. Who knows?

The Coin Shop in Ship St has a notice displayed that it has been bought out by an Irish Company along with their other branches. I changed some sterling to Euros at Tesco and got a better rate, 1.095 to the £ as opposed to 1.08 at Ship St, plus no commission, but not sure how much they hold.

If the euro zone is so fragile at the moment why is the exchange rate against the £ so bad.

I changed up £200 in euros & got 215 euros in return.
