On second thoughts don't bother you'd only cancel out my vote, so best you stay indoors, put on Channel 5 for 'Danny Dyer's Deadliest Hand Shandys' pull down your Nigel Farage branded Union Jack boxers and knock one out instead. Probably similar, people are very disinterested in the EU generally and turnout has always shown that lack of affection/regard for the EU parliament. I think it is a great pity. I'll try to find the stat.

edit: can only find Southeast turnout at 35.4% in the 2014 election. My ward seems to be even less interested.

I can only deduce from that the the majority of the passionate remainers are interested more in the trade side of the package than anything else?

Turnout in my ward in Eastbourne is heading for around 20%. A massive shame whichever way one wishes brexit to go.

The turnout across the country should be higher considering the gazillion 2nd referendum marchers and the several million signing that revoke petition. All those vociferous remainers voting in this showpiece of EU democracy, looking to send a clear message in these elections, showing the country has clearly changed it's mind.

I wonder which of the remain supporting parties will top the poll ...

We could end up in a situation where the Brexit party win seats they have to occupy even if a second referendum decided to revoke article 50. How much good would they be for the UK in that situation? I chose to vote on the assumption that those elected would represent the UK interests for the next 5 years.

That is bad. I think that local government is so stretched that incompetence is almost inevitable. It is wrong that people are denied their democratic right to vote.

I would imagine the primary reason is they are not registered to vote here, perhaps they have registered abroad so it would be mildly unfair to have two votes in one election.

The real issue is that the type of Brexit being proposed was never specified in the vote and specifically the NI border was never considered before the 2016 vote. With Brexit winning, the whole process is the subject of an attempted hijacking by those who are hell bent on leaving regardless of the cost.

A no deal Brexit would never have won in 2016, a Brexit where free movement across Ireland was compromised would never have won in 2016. Yet we find duplicitous Brexiteer politicians insisting that the paper thin 2016 victory gives them carte-blanche to do as they please. When this is challenged, they fall back to their populist betrayal mantra. May was too weak to stand up to this within her own party, and Labour are too weak to make a proper decision on what to do. My conclusion is that the politicians in the two big parties are collectively as useless as they have ever been in my lifetime. They are so poor that they run scared of a populist tosser with no real answers to the big issues - he doesn't even bother hiding it, as he hasn't got a manifesto - and who has never won a single general election and has previously been beaten by a man dressed as a dolphin.

We'll get the country we deserve, and it won't be a prosperous or safe one.
