I know some of you just LOVE hearing that phrase when it's all going wrong.

Let's just step back a sec. When Knight and Chippy and reback we'll be a completely different side IMHO. At the moment up front we have a very inexperienced striker in Molango who has a lot of pressure on him right now. Leon will take pretty much all of that off of him and let him start playing. Also, without Knight we have no real goal threat and therefore teams can relax and play football against us, putting pressure on our under strength midfield and young full backs. Chippy coming back into the side will add a cool head and stability in midfield and allow the new players to bed in a bit more after being lobbed in at the deep end.

I'm not saying miracles are going to happen when these two players come back but just please don't give up on the season yet.

Good points Chappers. The only conclusions I'd draw from our first two matches are that our defence aren't as good as we'd thought, we're missing key players and three out of the four new boys are good signings.

i can't understand how such a solid defence last season (best in the division) could be so poor a division up. I know the quality of football will be better, but Plymouth are managing. Stoke, Crewe, reading, cardiff all have managed to hang in there, what are they doing that we can't!

They are not playing 4-5-1 and playing for a point at home... Once we start playing to win with a 4-4-2 at home i think it'll turn around.

No Chappers! Ther must be no positivity whatsover on this board today! After two games it is SO obvious that we are the worst team that has ever existed. Now take off those rose-tinted spectacles this instant.

Bringing in new players perhaps? Our side now contains Alan Lee (Irish international), John Robinson (Welsh international), Tony Vidmar (Australian international), Paul Parry (Welsh international), Robert Page (Welsh international), Richard Langley (Jamaican international), etc.

None of these players were with us when we were in the Second Division. If a club is going to successfully make the step up to First Division standard, it has to bring in First Division players.

The likes of Darren Currie simply won't cut any ice at this level......

I can, Chippy and Charlie provide a lot of protection from midfield runners and prevent shots coming in from distance (Charlie being particularly good at getting in front of shots from outside the area). Cullip and Butters are quite capable of dealing with any crosses coming in.

Our defence was solid last year, you're right, but that I think has given us a slightly false sense of security in them. Butters, although now much fitter than when we were last in Div 1, is still slow and will be skinned now and then by better strikers. Harding and Virgo are still learning their trade and wil make more mistakes against the better wingers/forwards that they now face. Cullip is class but again will be beaten by pace at times. Kuipers also doesn't command his defence as well as Roberst although he is a fine goalkeeper.

If only we could afford those types of players.

I think most people are alarmed that we played so poorly against a side that last season we matched in two games.

And we still have to play some of the big guns, West ham, Sunderland, Ipswich, Notts Forest, leicester, Leeds etc and our inability to beat the likes of Plymouth is alarming...but you are right it is early days and the side do need to gel together....the problem is that you are not given time to and there are no easy games in this division.

I think that plaing the sort of friendlies we play has come home to haunt us a bit in that it gave us a false sense of our abilities.

I don't think our defence is any worse, it just hasn't played yet.

On one hand you can argue about spending money, but on the other hand, would any of those players have come to Brighton, even if we had offered the money?

(Remember we play at Withdean)
