Dreadful news for the lad. From a practical standpoint, I wonder what happens now with his contract? Obviously, our club doesn't cheat anyone so there's no concern he won't be properly looked after, but I wonder what the practicalities are now. It's a nightmare for Enock, and for us as a club to lose such a good young player who was going to get better and better and play a key role for us - as secondary as all that side of it is.

I think most clubs have insurance in place for these types of eventualities.

Very sad news but at least it’s been diagnosed before any serious harm came to him. I know the club will do their best by him .

LA...wishing it was devon..
A definite reminder that life is precious and although it may take us along different paths than planned, we have to be thankful that we are here. Enock has always come across as someone who recognises and appreciates what he has and although the shock factor must be like a grieving process, one hopes he is able to fulfull other ambitions. A role model for others.

Dreadful. I wonder what I would do if the same thing happened to me, part of me thinks I'd take the risk, to not do what I enjoyed and I loved would kill me....

of course he wouldn't be able to, Brighton nor any other club could pick him or play him with that diagnosis, rightly so. But you wonder how many players had long successful careers in the past with conditions like that which were not picked up on and never manifested themselves.. (and of course, we know of a few deaths, not playing the risk down).

All of life is a lottery, not sure I'd ever want to know that I was carrying something that could kill me at any moment.....

I just shed a few tears.

If it is any consolation (and I think it is), he now has the luxury of life, enjoying his family, and new adventures, and not the sudden cardiac death that would likely have occurred had this not been picked up.

I also believe his strong religious beliefs will help him at this awful time. Not a believer myself but if it helps him come to terms with this devastating news all the better for the poor lad.

Absolutely. Both club and player will be insured and due a sizeable payout in the event of something as unfortunate as this. We know the club will support him and who know, maybe see him through his coaching badges.

Poor bloke must be devastated after just having made it. Hopefully he will come to terms with it and still make a contribution to the sport he loves. He will be missed. Best wishes Enoch we are all rooting for you.

Thank goodness this cardiac problem was found before it did any serious damage.

I hope he can be fixed and can lead a long and normal life.

I wonder if they tried turning off ‘The Computer’ and turning him on again.

Very sad. Better to have a few years playing football though and retire young and safe than the alternative. I'm pleased he can take memories from Old Trafford this season and the Leicester thrashing. More than all our football dreams put together. The club will look after him and I wish him a long and healthy future.

Absolutely devastating for player and club. He is a really positive force for Albion and it would be great if he can be employed here in some capacity!

That's a great idea. In the midst of this upsetting news, it hadn't occurred to me about the club employing him in some other capacity.

It's too early to be making decisions like this, and I'm sure the last thing he needs is the fans sorting out his future, but would a scouting/ambassadorial role for southern/eastern Africa work, enabling him to go home and be with his family for a period, while still on the payroll?

Terrible news all round.

Was playing really well for us, and tragic for him to lose the career you love so young.

Still, the alternative is worse and wish him all the best.

Sad for him, he is a strong and posituve character though and he will be a success at whatever he wants to do next..

Share the sadness , disappointment and relief of everyone else on here. But very happy for his sake that the cardiac issue has been found and dealt with.

He has been a ray of sunshine. That smile!

Still in Brighton
Saddened to hear this news, especially as he is still young and had the talent to do very well with us. He's also lucky to have been at an employer who could do all necessary tests to find this issue and potentially save his life, aswell as still having some excellent career highlights/memories and made a huge amount of money. Health over everything though. Good luck to the lad in the future and, if he wants to, I hope he can stay at the Albion in some capacity.

Always terrible news when a player has to retire far too early, particularly one with so much potential and talent as Mwepu.
I wonder how devasting this news is in Zambia, as he seemed to be a national hero and someone who was well liked from The President down,
