England were " too tired" - pathetic.

Correct. But then HIS excuse was he didn't know the ref had to blow a whistle. (I guess he thought they carried them round as rape alarms).

Ah f*** it. I just got back from a boozey lunch and am being overly aggressive. Sorry also.
But the fact is, those conditions were extreme, and regardless of how much you earn or how fit you may be, unless taking penalties is second nature you will struggle. As Yoda says, we are at a disadvantage and the problem lies more with the FA and the English preperation than the individual players.
There is some truth in what you (and Yoda) say. The only player who scored for us, Hargreaves, must have been knackered because as the Times said, he covered so much ground that "sometimes he seemed to be on the end of his own passes". Was his success due to Bundesliga penalty shoot-out exposure?, i.e. was it familiar territory for him?

Either that or he just hit it as hard as he could rather than try and tickle it into the corner.

Again though, could that be his German training? Maybe we should try and get Gerrard, Lampard, etc transferred to German clubs to learn how to do it properly?

Lampard gets enough pens a season Lampard doesnt have to go anywhere to get anymore chance to learn, gets enough every year at Premiership Diving XI

Have much reserves of energy do you need to run up and kick a ball hard.

Germany 4 penalty shoot outs 4 wins 17 scored 1 missed.

ALL ENGLAND PLAYERS ARE WANKERS.

The germans have converted 16/17 over the last few years I imagine they are just as knackered after 120 minutes.

Just a few points;

1. If Steven Gerrard can paly in the FA Cup Final after extra WITH cramp and tiredness and still manage to pinpoint the bottom corner from 40 odd yards with power that was lucky not to break the net, why the hell does he hit such a poncy shot easy enough for the keeper to parry out?We have to practise penalties more!

2. If you asked the top ten accountants in England to do a GCSE paper and get 80%,they would do it without any trouble, which is equivalent saying to the top ten England players to shoot a ball from 12 yards into the goal!

3. How can it possibly be a lottery? If this quater final penalty shootout had been against Togo, would you expect us to lose?Crouch has absolutely no idea what he's on about, and did he actually step up to take a penalty?Ashley Cole was fifth choice so what would he know?

To add to this.

Mayby next time we should pratice pens after running non stop for 120 mins, just to get us physically prepared.

I think some teams do have a psychological problem with penalties if you look at history - the English, the Italians, the Dutch are all terrible at them.

It perhaps explains why the Italians in this tournament have had two virtually last-minute victories, against the Aussies and again tonight.

England should just be trying anything - staging some England A v England B shoot-outs at the end of England friendlies, like Watford did?
