McCague and Ilott only played two tests together and neither of them ever played in a test match with Foster.

Grendel, you are a pedant! You are also correct.

My point is that all 3 played in the disastrous Ashes series of 1993, which is where I place our bowling lowpoint. It's taken 14 years to plumb those depths...

Mike Smith from Gloucestershire must surely be counted in the ranks of pony bowlers.

Good shout.

Was Simon Brown a bowler? I think he only had one test and can't remember whether he did much of any note. I may be confusing him with another Brown from the County Circuit (No Ali).

That depends what you mean by "bowler"...

I was privileged enough to witness his one and only test match in the flesh. He had long hair and a ridiculous moustache, if I remember rightly. He got a wicket in his second or third over, I believe, then spent the rest of the match doing pretty much bugger all else. Graham Thorpe dropped a catch, but I can't remember who was bowling at the time.

Has Saggers and Ealham been offered yet?

I think we've had Saggers, but Fatty Ealham hasn't had a mention yet.

I'm thinking of an England test XI comprised solely of rotund players now....Key, Gatting, Ealham...

Good knock and hopefully now all his injury problems are resolved.

I see from Cricnfo that individual England batsmen have only scored over 140 vs Windies 3 times in the last 10 years - Key, Rampo and Freddie.

Considering how poor the Windies bowling has been and how we've had decent batsmen over this period I'm surprised. I'm really expect one of our lot to get a 230 or 240 in this series.

Colin Milburn was the most rotund England test player I've ever seen.

I also think Emburey in his latter years deserves to be nominated, as does his erstwhile moustachio'd twirler-in-crime Edward E. Hemmings.
