Oooh never had you down as a closet BNP supporter, MYOB. Hargreaves I'll grant you is a 'Granny Rule' signing (something you know all about), but the dark-skinned players are actually English by birth, not Carribean. We're not all white over here y'know.

Nor here, and I'm neither Oceanic nor Twatford; but if you apply the criterea that a lot on here seem to think Ireland should apply to our player choices, it comes damn close to it. And yet they don't apply their same bigotry to their own team...

I think one of Hargreaves parents is English and the other Welsh. As it says here;

Despite being something of a popular icon for Bayern Munich, Owen was actually born and raised in Canada with his English father and Welsh mother, both of whom worked for a steel company in Calgary. Prior to emigrating to Canada, Hargreaves Sr. had been a striker on the youth team of Bolton Wanderers in the UK. It didn't take long for Owen to follow in his father's footsteps and the young Canadian's exceptional footballing sense was quickly discovered at an early age, where upon he was swiftly transferred to Bayern. Now 25, he holds permanent residency in Germany.

As it happens, Hargreaves eventually chose to play for England, despite having never lived there before. He won his first cap in the match against Holland in August, 2001, soon after which Sven-Goran Eriksson took the reigns as England manager. Among other matches, he has played on the England squad during the Japan-Korea World Cup in 2002 and Euro2004 in Portugal, and has been representing England in the ongoing qualifiers for next year's World Cup in Germany. Although he is currently a substitute for both right and left midfield positions on the England squad, his physical capabilities and his talent as an all-rounder are recognised by all.

So what did mean by "Caribbean"? Who were you referring to?

The fact that the majority of your players who are 1st generation English are Carribean. The majority of our players who are first-generation Irish (are on the u16 panel and) are Eastern European. Simple designation of location. However, I can guarantee that in 5-6 years time where some of those from the U16 panel actually graduate to the senior squad there'll be people on here claiming we're taking "Polish rejects", etc.

Are you sure on that. Would say with most of them that their grand parents were the ones that came to the UK.

Where to begin? What a load of mean-spirited drivel almost from start to finish about a young side playing way beyond its, its public's and its coaches' pre-tournament expectations. A post almost as laughable as favourably comparing England's performance against Sweden to Germany's. :lolol:

Yeah, apart from Poland did only have ten men, Germany did score in the last minute, etc, etc.
And Germany were one of the favourites.
Never mind, you keep reading tabloids and i'll actually watch the games and we can keep on having fun chats

But they're not 'Carribean', they're English. There's a world of difference between people like Sol Campbell and Ashley Cole, both born and bred Londoners, and people like Mick McCarthy, Mark Lawrenson, Ray Houghton, etc etc etc. THAT'S who people moan about. No one's going to mind when Jyghghg Pylglglgl is playing for you - so long as he comes from somewhere like County Cork.

Old Mick and Mark have the stongest Irish brogues I can think off, true Irish fellows the pair of them.

1985. Found out myself...

Bloody hell. I don't want to appear rude but do you think any Englishman actually gives a shit when the last time we beat Ireland was?

Since 1985 England have played in 2 world cup quater finals, a world cup semi final and a European championship semi. On saturday we are playing in another world cup quater final.

In short, results against Ireland are as close to insignificant as you can get. Now, if that 21 year unbeaten run included knocking us out of the aforementioned world cup quaters and semi's then yes, maybe people would take an interest. The same holds true for the Scots banging on about friendly results in the 60's and 70's and beating us 1-0 at Wembley when they had lost 2-0 the week before at Hampden thus making their win IRRELEVANT.

edit: great thread U.S.

A poll conducted by a selection of Scottish and Welsh journalists, no doubt.

Bitter, not much :lolol:

The "Caribean players" are Black Englishmen. Don't you have anyone out in Bog Land without pasty skin or ginger hair ?

So, how do David Connolly (born Willesden), Clinton Morrison (Wandsworth), Kevin Kilbane (Preston), Liam Lawrence (Retford), Steven Reid (Kingston), Paddy Kenny (Halifax), Gary Breen (Maidstone) or Andrew O'Brian (Harrogate) fit in that little profile ?

That must have been the last time you turned out without any Englishmen propping your side up. :)

OWEN - Welsh name
ROONEY - Irish name
FERDINAND - Spanish/ Portugese name
CROUCH - what you do when you have a crap
JAMES - Welsh surname
LAMPARD - from a Germanic personal ... Lambard, Lampert, Lamperd, Lampard, Lampart
GERRARD - Surname Origin: French. Alternate Surname Spellings: GERARD
CARRAGHER - Irish name
CAMPBELL - Scottish name
LENNON - Irish name
CARRICK - dweller on the rocky cape, Gaelic (Irish in other words)
DOWNING - corruption of O'Dinneen (Irish!)
BRIDGE - At last! Anglo saxon, from Burgh meaning fortified place (as in Bury)
COLE - Could be old english, or could be from Hen Coel (Welsh King) - Which translates as Old King Cole (We know a song about him)
BECKHAM - Jewish

Three Lions - The symbol of Richard Couer de Lion, a Frenchman who became King of England. He was so proud of England, he spent most of his life in Palestine! (Apart from the time when he was in gaol!) In fact, he couldn't even speak English, which is not unusual amongst English royalty.

- ripped off a Bluebirds messageboard.
