Bell's got an extrordinary record at Lord's. Today's 50 takes him to top in the list of 50+ Test match scores at Lord's. He also has a superior average to anyone else in the top 10 of that particular stat, with only the mighty Denis Compton coming close.

Tea on Day One... the game is still moving on at a good pace despite Sri Lanka only bowling 28 overs in the session (53 in total).

Just 1 wicket for Sri Lanka, and 97 runs for England. Joe Root batting through the session for England.

England 195-4 (53 overs)

Joe Root 43* (91 balls) Moeen Ali 43* (82 balls)

During the golf, obviously.

Fair.

I need MONEY riding on golf to take a real interest in it.

That said, the cricket will continue until after I've left the office for the night, so that still doesn't afford many working opportunities.

There was the lunch interval, but I had to nip out to the bookies and put some World Cup bets on. there's a 20 minute tea break now. Maybe I could squeeze a bit of work in quick, now?

There's some TENNIS on if you're REALLY desperate for some sport.

Ali looks like a very classy batsman.

I'd like to see him do well. He could be a player in the mould of Ashley Giles, some reasonable batting and tying down an end with spin when needed.

bloodyhell vegster, I was getting excited about Ali and you go and compare him to the King of Spain! Jeez, I thought he looks a proper batsmen coming in at no.6…I don't ever remember thinking that when the wheelie bin walked in!

Bugger.

Ali has a rather wild drive at Herath... gets the outside edge... and is easily caught at slip for 48.

209-5

Cometh the hour...

Oh dear... missed the lunging front pad... hits the back leg... looks bad... and he is safe by a whisker on the umpires call.
