WORLD CUP, GROUP C, ST LUCIA:
England v New Zealand
James Anderson has been passed fit and will start for England in their World Cup opener against New Zealand.

The Lancashire seamer broke the little finger on his bowling hand during training on Wednesday, but has recovered in time to start the match.

He is likely to open the bowling with Liam Plunkett, who was picked ahead of Sajid Mahmood and Jon Lewis, while Ed Joyce was preferred to Andrew Strauss.

The tie should start on time despite 90 minutes of early rain in St Lucia.

How fit is fit though? Reckon if you bust (dislocated?) a finger on the hand of yer bowling arm on the Wednesday, you'd not be quite right on the Friday.

1315 GMT: Latest news: we're definitely starting at 1400 GMT. Bingo. Good news for those of you worrying about Michael Vaughan's fitness - he's been jogging around for at least 10 minutes with no sound of twanging, tearing or snapping whatsoever.

I see the Beeb have the pessimistic, critical yet humourous correspondent on today:

1255 GMT: Here we go then - England's opening joust in this year's World Cup. And New Zealand's too, of course. To be fair, my brain's still fried from the madness that was Ireland-Zimbabwe last night - but the heady rush of adrenaline that comes with the chance to watch Jamie Dalrymple and Paul Nixon in action should soon sort that out.

Good start for our Sri Lankans yesterday THPP. To add to the quality they already possess this young guy Silva looks the business as well. I don't really see a weakness in their team.
