Perhaps some emphasis should be placed on how ineffective we looked in their penalty box
Oh yes. Fully agree. But being ineffective in attack doesn’t mean Dunk didn’t make an awful error that led to the only goal in the game.

The cold hard fact is Dunk f***ed up for that goal and Brighton fans trying to rewrite the narrative to suggest either he didn’t - or should be starting games is ‘tinted specs’ nonsense, in my view.

Hey we have all had a bad one, ask Southgate, he probably had the worst one. Southgate can show his intent in starting Dunk against Belgium. This would perhaps give us a lot of belief in whether he truly rates him.
We could see Dunk start against Belgium, but I’d have been more confident of that if he hadn’t come on tonight. He won’t be in any other squads after tonight. With the blue & white glasses off he was terrible and De Zerbi’s insistence on constantly recycling and playing short is partly to blame as it’s the opposite of Southgate’s safety first bore fest.

Well we all see it differently I suppose. When Dunk came on I thought the back line played with a lot more confidence. If Southgate had any sense he would start in Germany with Stones and Dunk but we all know he won’t. Dunk would be better off on the beach than in Germany.
Think you are watching this with your B&W glasses on. Dunk is a great leader for us and quite rightly we are gentle with him when he makes an error. But too many CFs in the PL get the better of him, he didn’t have a great European campaign and he seems to be making more mistakes. He’ll need a stormer if he plays on Tuesday otherwise he’ll be on the beach in the summer, or worse permanently on the bench.

Havnt seen one post say he wasnt involved in their goal.

As regards to your comment on him starting I’ll reserve judgement against those with the narrative who think his international career is over based on tonight’s appearance

You haven’t seen one post saying Dunk was involved in Brazil’s goal? Okay.

I think you know exactly what I meant and I was in the middle of amending my post when you posted
No, genuinely I didn't. Anyway, I’m not fussed whether Dunk plays for England or not tbh. Tonight he did and had a bit of a stinker. It happens.

And risk Potter taking over - would that be any better? 😂
Wouldn't be a Potter sort of gig. His strength is working with players - not necessarily born superstars - on a daily basis and making them better, and making them collectively better as a team.
Similar modus operandi to RDZ in that respect. Different job to getting a bunch of disparate players together once in a while for a quick fix. Not saying he couldn't do it any better or worse than Waistcoat man though.

Despite his poor performance tonight, I think Dunk will start against Belgium simply because this is how Southgate runs things with sharing playing time among the squad. Having played the final quarter tonight, I think he'll certainly play at least a half if not three quarters on Tuesday.

How he performs on Tuesday will clearly be important after tonight's showing. Do well and things could well be different. Another poor performance and you may well be right.

No blue and white tinted specs or revisionism here - he's got some work to do. But I think he'll have at least 45 minutes to do it.

Not sure you are reading the room correctly ….hes an awful player….crap for Brighton ..awful for England and should retire immediately
You are quite right, I don’t read a room, I tell it like I see it. B&W glasses it may be but I thought the defence looked much more assured when Dunk came on. So we lost a friendly to Brazil, big deal. In the build up they said Brazil had lost their last 3 and we were undefeated in 20. Everyone could see what was going to happen and should have put money on it! People want to blame Dunk for the goal, fine. I don’t and we are all entitled to our opinions.

He did a great job for us, I don’t think that could ever be denied….

However, when RdZ does go, I really don’t think he’d be the answer to move us forward.
But how much 'forward' do you think we can go? Our 2022-23 success was built on the foundations of a great start (under Potter). If we want to keep pushing in or around the top ten, how bad an option do you think Potter would be? Yes, he's got some bad will to overcome, due to the manner of his leaving; maybe TB and his computer have got a better (completely off the wall and left-side) option locked in. Or maybe not......

Could do worse.

It was a poor header from dunk. Undoubtedly. Maguire made an absolute clanger which the Brazilian pulled wide in a one on one. So one mistake will be discussed and the other won’t. Better to be lucky than good, I guess.

It was strange seeing him look up for movement in midfield and they were all just stood about. How can that much attacking flair be made to look so slow and rubbish.

I hope Southgate goes to Man U.

I’m not sure we’d have made Europe with Potter, I don’t think he is tactically astute enough to sustain that level. Just an opinion…..

How much further depends on the next appointment, IMO, we just need to adjust slightly to make ourselves more solid without the ball, as we remain very open.
