BBC Sport - Euro 2012: England squad arrive in Poland

The England football squad arrived in Poland on Wednesday for Euro 2012.
The party, led by manager Roy Hodgson, landed on a flight from Luton at 16:45 BST before heading to a base in Krakow.
As England's group matches are all in Ukraine, they will be clocking up 5,000 miles to play their first three games.

So why stick us in Poland if all our games are in Ukraine ???

Because they chose the hotel and training facilities before the games were announced and there was nowhere better in Ukraine because all the teams had chosen their places.

All the knockout games will be in Poland, except the final. I think.

Fair enough then, I still think it's a weird decision but maybe I'm looking too much into it.

They did look into moving but because most of the teams had already taken the best bases in Ukraine. It doesnt help that one of our games is the furthest away from the Poland border either.

It's sheer luck. In this case, bad. There was a thread about this on here before, and it descended into people slagging off Fab Cap, and then the FA. I hope this doesn't go the same way, there was no way they could have known we'd be in a group in Ukraine. It's just one of those things. Maybe they could have booked one in Ukraine and one in Poland, just in case. But then people would have been outraged by the wasted expense.

Going by the size of Poland and, in particular Ukraine, I doubt we are doing that many more miles than the other countries.

I am sure the poor lovies will be OK with a short bus ride to an airport, a short walk through a terminal, get onto a private plane, sit on it for 45minutes, get off, get a bus to other camp in Donetsk or Kiev and settle in.

Only 3 teams are staying in the Ukraine. Everyone else is staying in Poland. Travelling is no excuse for us.

We have black players. Ukraine would have been bad!

No idea. I've only seen Ukraine people act racist. They might be, but I have no evidence.

Oh, I'm not too sure, just remember watching that documentary and seeing some poor indian people get their head kicked in by about 15 fans just for being black, absolutely disgusting behaviour.

Wasnt that in Ukraine? I thought the only racist things they showed in Poland were chanting and grafiti?

Polish HATE english people though, especially in the City we are staying in! Guy I know went there for stag do, and the dad of guy getting married had head split open by the bouncer of a club. Said everywhere they went they had trouble just for being British.

There really is nothing like a sweeping generalisation, is there? I bet you plenty of posters on this board have been to Poland and had a great time. Likewise, there are enough Poles in the UK to suggest that they don't mind us all that much.

I'd hazard a guess that your mate's party were more likely to have been singled out for the fact that they were a bunch of pissed guys on a stag do (and maybe, just maybe a tad lairy), than purely for being English.

Well, they knew it was an exactly 50/50 chance though...
