This is how I see it:

James: 6 - scared the hell out of me everytime a cross came in. Shot-stopping was decent but no more. Time for Robinson to come in

Neville G: 7.5 - Thought it was his best tournament for England. Looked solid in every game

Campbell: 8 - England's rock at the back in every game

Terry: 6 - Looked out of sorts in his first match against Switzerland. Slowly improved but still seemed to defend too deeply and was badly caught out of position for first goal last night

Cole A: 8 - Good tournament all-round capped by Man of the Match display last night

Beckham: 5 - Under-par all tournament. Creativity not as good as usual and lacked fitness (no excuse for that)

Lampard: 7.5 - Effective, goal-scoring displays. Not at his best last night but has come out of tournament as a player of real international quality

Gerrard: 7.5 - Superb for first 3 games but faded badly last night. Seemed seriously jaded after tireless displays in previous games

Scholes: 6 - Finally scored and did ok in the group stages. Again looked tired last night

Rooney: 9 - Enough said

Owen: 7 - Improved every match. Once again answered his critics with brilliant finish last night

King: 8 - Superb performance against France and extremely unlucky to play no further part in tournament

Hargreaves: 6 - Did ok when he came on although gave the ball away for 2nd goal last night

Vassell: 7 - Scares defences with his pace and great to have on the bench

Neville P: 5 - Distinctly average

Heskey: 5 - Think his England days are well and truly numbered

I think that is a pretty fair appraisal all round. but would like to add that Terry really deserves an extra .5 for it being his first tournament.

James - 5.5 (shaky under pressure, but made some good saves)

Cole - 8.0 (defended better than previous games, attacked well)
Campbell - 8.0 (a rock at the back, deserved to send us through)
Terry - 5.5 (too slow and immobile for international level, but tried hard)
Neville - 7.5 (did well, taking a lot of responsibility and attacking with gusto)

Scholes - 5.0 (not fit enough, did not perform, one goal should not mask the fact that he does not deserve to be chosen ahead of Hargreaves)
Gerrard - 6.5 (below par, but had some good moments and was let down by others in the midfield not working hard enough)
Lampard - 7.0 (worked hard, got a couple of goals, as Gerrard)
Beckham - 4.0 (shameful, never performed, 2 missed penalties, not fit enough to play at this level)

Rooney - 9.0 (revelation, did so much, does not deserve to be on the plane home)
Owen - 6.5 (disappointing early on, but looked to be turning it round when we went out)

Vassell - 7.0 (did little wrong, confirmed what we already knew of him)
Hargreaves - 7.0 (performances suggest he should be started on the left)
King - 8.0 (superb against French, polished against Croats, could be Campbell's long-term partner (in defence))
Heskey - 6.0 (did little, had little chance)
Neville, P - 6.0 (did OK, little more)

James: 6.5 - I expected him to be a disater like he generally has been at club level, but overall apart from a few anxious moments he was okay.

Neville G: 6 - His best tournament, but that's not saying much. He's a crap player and that can't be disgiused. Good at going forward but then lost the ball too many times, and was always the last of the back four to come back. He is too slow and was so bad that Beckham had to come back and cover for him.

Campbell: 9 - He has been class for Arsenal and has proven himself to be a world class defender.

Terry: 6 - Hard working, but average performances.

Cole A: 8 - People always criticise him but generally he was fantastic.

Beckham: 6 - Did a few good crosses and set pieces and defended well, but not the high standards we've come to expect from the captain.

Lampard: 8 - Carried his good Chelsea form into the England squad, scored crucial goals.

Gerrard: 6 - f***ing over-rated, gave the ball away lots and that stupid backpass vs. France cost us first place in our group.

Scholes: 5.5 - Ineffective, lost the ball, a shadow of his former self.

Rooney: 9 - A revelation.

Owen: 7 - Showed that he is a good player, but overall his performances were below par from in previous tournaments.

King: 8 - I feared the worst when King started against France, but he did his duty well.

Hargreaves: 7 - looked like a real threat versus Portugal, should've started in all games instead of Scholes.

Vassell: 6.5 - didn't have time to do much, was too far forward to get involved versus Portugal.

Neville P: 3 - f***ing stupid useless donkey.

Heskey: 4 - Wreckless tackle cost us the match against France

Would have said it was the other way round really, he was having to constantly cover for Beckham's laziness, both attackig and defending

James - 4 - Not international Class. Someone must tell him he is allowed to come off his line

Cole - 7.0 - Poor first half last night...got better in the second. Kept Ronaldo quiet for a while
Campbell - 8.0 - Class, but distribution poor
Terry - 6 - Good old fashioned stopper, but not sure if the modern game doesn't need someone who can pass the ball better
Neville - 7 - Good, but I would be looking to replace him with a younger full back now...Johnson maybe?

Scholes - 5.0 - Not impressed at all. Bit too negative for my liking ( would he get in Portugal's team?)
Gerrard - 6 - When he is refreshed, he is good, when he is tired, he looks very ordinary
Lampard - 7 - Poor last night, gave the ball away and struggled to hold it up - took goal well. One for the future
Beckham - 5 - I think all the pressure is finally getting to him. He looked jaded and only came to life in the last 10 minutes of extra time. Where is the Beckham that ran the game against Greece?

Rooney - 8 - Still young and learning - will be very good if he stays fit and starts playing with a better team than Everton. Good vision One for the future
Owen - 7 - Not been impressed at all this tournement. He seems to be lacking confidence and ability to hold it up.

Vassell - 4 - not impressed at all. He was never going to win the game on his own. Poor first touch and gave the ball away too many times.
Hargreaves - 7 - very impressed. Looked accomplished and comfortable on the ball. Good final ball. I would have him in from the start
King - 8.0 - Be interesting to see what happens when Rio is back. Looked very polished.

Heskey/Neville - thanks for the memories. Bye

Sven - 6 - please explain the tactic of scoring early and then defending for the next 80 minutes by defending on the 18 yard line. Also explain why we are the only country who do this?

Overall, yes we had a shocker of a ref, but I cannot remember a goal scored in Europe where the goalie is challenged and goes down in a heap. The ref's blow every time. We scored early and then sat back against a team that were far better than we were. the midfield created precious little and we seem to be devoid of anyone who can put their foot on it and hold it. hammering 60 yard balls to two migits up front was folly and Portugal were going to score eventually! It was s like the France game it was untrue. My concern is that we did not learn from that French game.

Rant over...Bring on Reading

FRUIT OF THE BLOOM
The facts are that our best starting 11 started that game last night with the exception of Ferdinand for Terry.

And i cant see anyone at the moment forcing there way into the side at the moment.

So how are we going to improve and get better ?

Although i rate what Sven has done for us, i would change the manager...

Step up Martin O'Neill, he gets players performing and if he can get an extra 10% out of the quality we have that will tip the scales in our favour.

USING PERTH SEAGULL REVIEW AS MY BASE HERE I GO.

James:4 - TOO MANY MISTAKES, DOES NOT COMAND HIS AREA NOT INTERNATIONAL STANDARD

Neville G: 6 - OK. WOULD HAVE HELPED IF HE OVERLAPPED WITH BECKAM.

Campbell: 9 -CLASS ACT.

Terry: 6 - NOT ANYTHING SPECIAL, MADE A COUPLE OF MISTAKES, LAT NIGHT SHOWED HIM PLAYING FIVE YARDS DEEPER THAN THE REST OF HIS DEFENCE.

Cole A: 7 - LAZY AT THE BEGINNING OF LAST NIGHT. BUT TURNED IN A GREAT PERFORMANCE AGAINGST A DIFFICULT PERFORMER. AVAERAGE AGAINGST FRANCE.

Beckham: 6 - Did a few good crosses and set pieces and defended well, but not the high standards we've come to expect from the captain.

Lampard: 6 - WENT MISSING LAST NIGHT. UNTIL THE 90 MINUTE. GOOD AGAINGST AVERAGE TEAMS.

Gerrard: 6 - f***ing over-rated, gave the ball away lots and that stupid backpass vs. France cost us first place in our group.

Scholes: 5.5 - Ineffective, lost the ball, a shadow of his former self.

Rooney: 10 - A revelation. 10 COS AT 18 HE WAS THE MAN. AS THE COMMENTATORS SAID LAST NIGHT. WHEN HE WENT OFF, WE LOOKED A DIFFERENT SIDE.
