We've lost only twice competitively in 4 years, not a bad record

Exactly. We were unbeaten at the Euros also which people are quickly forgetting. Don't get me wrong we're not the 4th best in the world and these rankings are often odd BUT they are based on results and a results system. England often qualify fairly well for tournos (think we lost one match incidentally to Ukraine when we had 10 men and were already through, in both WC10 and Euro12 qualifying. But people will always remember tournos and especially poor ones like the WC i guess.

4th ranked in the World? :lolol: I don't care how they come up with that, it's complete and utter bollocks

How would you know - you 'can't be bothered to watch England'... remember?

Regardless of the qualifying stages, England haven't reached the last 4 of a major tournament since 1996. Like others have said, the rankings are ridiculous.

... However it does keep giving us easier qualifying groups so I'll obviously take it.

IMO you should get BIG points for where you place in a major tournament and lesser points for qualifying games and friendlies. Italy won the world cup in 2006 and finished 2nd at euro 2000 & 2012.. Just how can they be lower? Oh because they've lost a few friendlies! FFS Fifa!

I just looked up the calculation. Friendlies are included, and account for about 50% of the games in the rankings apparently. And nations are weighted according to strength so that bucket and spade holiday to London which Spain made a few months back will have skewed the England ranking somewhat. Ditto the victory over Germany I guess. This said friendlies have a lesser weighting than tournament games. I still think its nonsense to include non-competitive games though; allegedly it's because FIFA see them as important.

. It will be interesting to see rankings with friendlies removed.

!

The ranking is self-fulfilling in this respect.

The rankings are crap - we should be in front of Germany they lost to Italy and we held them to a 0-0 over 120 minutes.

Oh come on lighten up, even someone as passionate as you are about England can surely see that that ranking is LAUGHABLE?

For what it's worth I watched every minute of England's games this Euros and for the most part enjoyed it, massive improvement in every way on the embarrassing shambles of South Africa.

England are realistically anywhere between 13th and 18th in the World - 6th-10th best in Europe

That's total shit. Maybe 5-6th in Europe but we are in the top 10 in the world. Africa's full of shit as is Asia. Meaning Brazil, Argentina and Uruguay (arguably) are better than us. I'd like to hear who you think the 13-18 better teams than us are.
