Me too. I just hope he does more with that fire in his belly than I did.
Well he's certainly not planning to. The last thread he started he said he was going to abandon us in Britain to our fate and go and live in Ibiza! (Getting ready for the end of the world in December).

There is one difference between me at 16 and Falmer: My speech, as well as railing against the older generation, would have been heavily laden with Marxist ideology. I couldn't open my mouth without saying class conflict, capitalist pigs, imperialist lackeys, dictatorship of the proletariat, etc. (Views incidentally that I find I'm being drawn back to in my fifties!)

No-one is arguing that the world is not f***ed up at the moment or that we are being royally f***ed by those in power. My argument is that it's all well and good spouting half formed ideas, conspiracy theories and second hand rhetoric but as one gets older and gains more knowledge of how the world operates on a personal and global scale one begins to see more effective ways of dealing with the problems we face. It's encouraging to see the youth, nomatter how misguided taking an interest in how the world works but coming onto a football forum and telling people who clearly have more life experience than you that they know nothing and are part of a useless generation will acheive the sum total of cock all. Inorder to changethings you have to get people to listen and understand you. Citing half baked stories from the Daily Mail is perhaps, not a great start.

Couldn’t be more confused! There’s a video of a man being arrested, the man’s friends get a little angry. Then we start talking about how old we are and other totally random stuff. Is this justice was the question, I have no idea but I can’t see anything wrong with what I watched, other than an annoying cameraman than need a lesson in social interaction.

this is the sort of thing you would expect from the police in Iran or China, very poor that the Met needed to outnumber a few unarmed non-violent protestors about 3-1 plus plaincloths thugs

we know nothing about the situation. the start, with the plain cloths chap snatching somone was very targeted. who was that, what has he done? for all we know there was a warrant for him. agree there appears to far more police than necessary, i summise thats either because who they are or it was a group on standby given its location (easy to move to Oxford St or Trafalgar Sq)

still dont the lizard reference, is it because their eyes look opaque from the poor quality recording device and light?

They could have 'snatched' that bloke because they saw him as possibly subversive and a 'ringleader' for malcontents.
Remember the ob in London have had to deal with some big disturbances and mob protests, and then some innocent bloke gets pushed and he dies and it's all over the front pages about brutality.
Nipping it in the bud, may be how they approach policing of these affairs - but they might have a complete power to shut down freedom of speech by doing that sort of thing.
It's a conundrum - do you test your freedoms and then find yourself bound and gagged in a web of police red tape? You might not get dropped from a plane like Pinochet would do to you, but you could get banged up and find out that you don't really have as complete a freedom of speech as you thought you did.

Attracting the attention of the police in any way is a sticky situation because they are lacking in quality and intelligence. They clearly do not hire the sharpest tools in the shed, and detectives aren't what you see on Kojak or Columbo at all.

If you ever want proof of police intelligence or misuse of power, you only have to consider the innocent Brazillian.
RIP.

There is certainly an imbalance in the power and discretion the police are given in comparison to the general level of intelligence displayed by the average P.C
