Give her a break, she's not presenting in her native language. If you can give a speech in front of millions in Russian without making a slip, then I salute you.

Nothing to do with the quality of her English.

we'll have none of that reasonableness here. we're allowed to laugh at FOREIGNERS especially when they're trying to beat us.

Very blinkered views on this thread. Russians presentation has been ok. Far better than the Dutch and Spain attempts

If it were down to presentations it would be between us and the Commies. Sadly it's not though.

I'm glad that so many of you have finally been caught up in the fervent patriotism around this bid that I've been trying to put across on here.

agree with you entirely. I dont think (honestly) it was as good as ours but clearly better than Iberia. The low countries one wasn't that bad especially the 70's interview with cruyff overdubbed with him speaking now - however their bid does not show the money making promise that us and russia's does.

Well rounded-off with an excellent parade of racial stereotypes.

To be fair we had Beckham in a field surround by black children. I think cliche is the weapon of choice!

Agreed, but did you see the fat Italian guy with a moustache and the English guy in the bowler hat??

We've got the best bid from a practical sense, and by the sounds of it, the best presentation (I only heard ours and russia's). Unfortunately I still feel that politics combined with a few large brown envelopes will see it go to Russia.

There's always bias again nations like England and Austrlaia because they are viewed as being different to their neigbours in their respective regions and thus don't get the support they deserve.

The WC will probably go to the extremely corrupt and violent Russians and the potentially dangerous Qatar and all the religious loonies in the region.

National Stereotypes - Television Tropes Idioms

Russians are drunken, nostalgic for Soviet Russia (always referring to it as "The Motherland"), and love to do traditional dances while drunk. Much like stereotypical drunks, Russians have two emotional states: exuberantly joyful, or coldly enraged, and can switch between the two at a moment's notice. Russian immigrants to the US are mostly gangsters. They love chess, have terrible grammar, worse architecture, and are quite likely to use some Russian Reversal ("In Soviet Russia, TV watches you!"). Russians will tend not to use articles (the words "the" and "a"), or to use the wrong ones, since the Russian language does not have any equivalent to these words. They refer to anyone as 'Comrade'.

# Germans are ill-tempered, humorless, and ruthlessly efficient. They are either megalomaniacs or blind followers of megalomaniacs. Germans are never The Hero; they are very often villains (though less so in the last ten years or so), or are strict or angsty allies. This is an evolving trope, as new threats arise in the world and World War II begins to be a bit more remote. (Hollywood seems to have missed The Cold War.)

* Germans make polite, conscientious tourists. The German on holiday has a reputation for "reserving" a spot on a beach or a sunbed by getting up early and leaving a towel on it.
* Bavaria is something of its own country; it's not the same Germany south of the Weisswurstaequator. Like most stereotypes internal to a country, the rest of the world hasn't heard of this.
* The German reputation for belligerence has fluctuated a great deal through the ages. The ancient Germani were considered very war-like by the Romans, but by the Victorian period, the typical German was considered to be sentimental and romantic and musical —Gemüthlichkeit and Trāumerei were the clichés. Then along came Bismarck and the Franco German War, and all Germans became Prussians...
* The oldest, and most enduring, stereotype — it can be found in Tacitus' Germania, in Dante's Divine Comedy, in Shakespeare's The Merchant Of Venice, etc., etc. — is that the Germans are heavy drinkers.

If we still had the Empire, we wouldnt have all this bollocks, we would just tell Blatter when we want the thing.

No, when we had an empire, the whole idea of a World Cup was beneath us. We couldn't be seen as trying to compete with lesser nations. We only started to enter the WC when the empire was being dismantled.
