FOOTBALL TO PUNISH GAY TAUNTS ON THE PITCH AND TERRACES
Homophobic football fans and players will face the same tough penalties as racists as part of a new campaign involving the police and the Football Association....
It would mean an end to the taunts endured by followers of Brighton and Hove Albion who are routinely subjected to chants of: "Does your boyfriend know you're here?" The city is home to a large gay community.

Would we have got fined on saturday for singing "Does my boyfriend know I'm here" and "We're just a town full of foggots" then?

To be honest, I've enjoyed the piss take this year when we seem to have gone on the offensive over this one.

also from times article:
The FA, which is running the campaign with support from the Metropolitan Police, wants to rid grounds of all homophobic chants which, it believes, should be treated in the same way as racist abuse, an offence for which offenders can be banned from football grounds and fined.

Seems a bit OTT to me...

About bloody time, it seems to getting more nasty, especially amongst younger fans who are increasingly homophobic in schools etc. Many assaults in schools are against gay pupils or those who are percieved gay, anything to stop this in football is a good thing and we won't have to keep coming up with 'clever' responses!!

Agreed, there is a bigger picture here than the fun and games we have on Saturday afternoon. Particularly disappointing has been how the likes of Ali G-style satire has been taken the wrong way and, combined with the influence of dancehall reggae taken out of its Jamaican context, it's made homophobia a bit trendy again. So there is still a battle to be fought and well done to the football authorities for taking it up.

I don't think there is a problem with our self-identifying chants, although we might have the same discussion as the Spurs fans are having currently about their Yids ones. That won't be a bad thing to ensure that there is at least an element of cultural solidarity with Brighton's gay community going on here.

Lucky for us it wasnt introduced before our game with Pompey. Chants "we know your shagging Will Young" to Matthew Taylor, and "He takes it up the arse, he takes up the arse, Matthew Taylor Matthew Taylor takes it up the arse" would have seen us heavily fined :nono:

He took it very well though with a sarcastic smile and clap to the Palace fans.

Tend to agree-especially if the football authorities are FA are involved in sorting it out.

It pisses me off when I see and hear a load of knuckle scrapers and their gay shit but we're doing the right thing by responding with stuff that makes them look stupid. For the morons we encounter, looking stupid isn't difficult-it's a birthright!

Why not ? It pretty much works for racist chanting, doesn't it ??

That's because racism is high profile and affects every club. Other than ourselves and possibly Blackpool with a gay community that matches Brighton, who else will this help?

Let's be honest-the FA could have and should have done something long ago, they didn't so now when the troglodytes try and insult us we make them look totally stupid in much the same way Cardiff fans pre-empt the 'sheep shaggers' chants.

Besides, there are no Premiershit sides that this affects so the FA will do f*** all.

To quote from the article...

That doesn't look like 'doing f*** all' to me.
