My youngest son is a lorry driver and fell at work. He reported a defect on his lorry as the steps werent operating properly but according to his firm he breached health and safety rules by not using the 3 point entry onto and off of the back of the lorry which are the tail lift, handle on the side and the floor, by lowering himself down onto the path from the back of his lorry. They originally threatened him with a written warning but have now gone back and said that he must go on a refresher HS course instead. However he has just now been informed that he may have a ruptured Achilles and that would mean at least 4 months in plaster. How does he stand re keeping his job in the long term and being paid in the short term.

How does he stand? With a ruptured achilles probably rather painfully I'd say.

I would suggest that he gets a professional legal advisor... Most solicitors give a free 30 minute consultation... Or go to your local CAB centre! Employees have many more rights than their employers these days!
