in the early days, i really liked the MGMT album.... but i soon got bored of it (exception being, time to pretend). the empire of the sun album is much stronger if you ask me, at least four great tracks. as for being mgmt copyists, they sound vocally similar but i think they have more to them that that (and dave fridmann had a big hand in mgmt's sound) but then i was a big fan of luke steele's other/previous band, sleepy jackson.

It's not that other bands copy a successful band. There are thousands of bands of every genre around at any one time, A&Rs just notice what particular style is selling and so try to find "the next MGMT" to throw money at. And so on.
